Unitree G1 Humanoid Robot Gives Chase to Wild Boars in a Polish Parking Lot

A band of wild boars broke onto the sidewalk and grass on the outskirts of Warsaw, as seen on video late one night. Barely a moment later, a Unitree G1 humanoid robot appears from the side, its legs pumping furiously as it fights to stay upright.
The robot was steadily closing the gap across the open lot, its backpack bobbing up and down with each stride and the white of its knee pads contrasting with the darkness. The boar split apart and scattered further down the field, disappearing behind the woodland line on the far side of the open space. The G1 continued for a few more seconds before coming to a halt squarely in the midst of the pavement, giving you the sensation that the work was only half done, or maybe it was just a courageous effort worth celebrating.

Its operators control the robot from a distance, much like a drone with legs. It was purposefully deployed in Warsaw because wild boars have been a common nuisance in the capital and other Polish towns, breaking into homes and inflicting damage that accumulates over time. The video uses a caption that makes it appear as if the robot is doing the talking, but the real point is clear: this is a machine capable of following animals without anyone having to step outdoors.
Unitree is the Chinese company that created the G1, a cheap humanoid robot that stands around four feet tall and runs on a two-hour battery. The version seen in the Warsaw footage has been outfitted with extra gear, such as a backpack and protection pads, to withstand rough terrain and appear tougher. Owners can purchase one off the shelf for roughly $17,500, making the entire package far more affordable than many of the other high-end robots available. We’d previously seen footage of this same unit, dubbed Edward Warchocki, going about its daily business in Poland, such as going to the store or attending public events, so this boar hunt fits perfectly in with its expanding record of public appearances.
