Tiger Woods found with two pills in his pocket after car crash and DUI arrest
Police found two hydrocodone pills in Tiger Woods’ pocket after his car crash in Florida last week.
The 50-year-old was arrested on suspicion of DUI last Friday after his Range Rover overturned in a collision with a truck near his home on Jupiter Island, Florida.
Woods, a 15-time major champion, told Martin County Sheriff investigators that he was unaware that the truck in front had slowed down to turn as he was looking down at his mobile phone, according to an arrest affidavit released Tuesday.
A Martin County Sheriff deputy noted that Woods had ‘bloodshot and glassy’ eyes and ‘extremely dilated’ pupils.
Woods was also said to be ‘sweating profusely’ and was ‘lethargic and slow’, according to the affidavit.
Two hydrocodone pills were found in Woods’ trouser pocket after he was searched. Hydrocodone is a prescription opioid used to treat severe, chronic pain.
A breath test registered zero on both samples, indicating that no alcohol was present, but Woods refused to provide a urine sample which can be tested for drugs and medication.
Woods told police that he had not drank alcohol that day. When asked if he had taken any prescription medication Woods said, ‘I take a few’.
Woods’ current girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, who is the former wife of Donald Trump Jr, is understood to be furious with the golfer’s latest crash.
Woods underwent emergency surgery after suffering multiple leg injuries following a serious car accident in California in February 2021.
He was also arrested on a DUI charge in 2017 after being found asleep at the wheel of his car. He later pleaded guilty to reckless driving after it emerged that he had had five prescription drugs in his system.
In 2009, Woods crashed into a fire hydrant outside his home which triggered admissions of serial infidelity that eventually led to the end of his seven-year marriage.
Last week, Woods returned to competitive golf for the first time in over a year at the final night of the TGL season on Tuesday.
It remains unclear whether Woods will participate in the upcoming Masters Tournament, which begins on April 9.
