Marc Broidy: Stewardship, accountability, and nonprofit service

Drawing upon decades of boardroom experience, family tradition, and personal insight, Los Angeles-based consultant Marc Broidy brings a governance-focused perspective to the nonprofit sector, one grounded in stewardship, accountability, and continued contribution at different stages of life.

Raised in Los Angeles, Marc Broidy grew up in a family involved in philanthropy and institutional leadership. His grandfather, Steve Broidy, was involved in the development of what would become Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, while his father, Steven D. Broidy, served on the hospital’s Board of Directors, and both men contributed to numerous charitable and civic organizations throughout their careers. Their work introduced Broidy to an approach to leadership centered on service, responsibility, and community involvement.

Continuing that tradition, Marc Broidy served for many years on the Board of Governors of Cedars-Sinai and as a Trustee of Pitzer College. These experiences provided him with a firsthand understanding of how mission-driven institutions function, both when they are operating effectively and when they face organizational challenges that can threaten their effectiveness. Through years of board service, he developed experience in governance, strategic oversight, and organizational resilience.

Professional experience and governance

Marc Broidy’s professional background includes a 20-year career in financial services as well as extensive experience serving nonprofit institutions. He says these roles shaped his interest in organizational governance and the responsibilities involved in overseeing mission-driven organizations.

His board experience also informed his view that leadership requires clearly defined responsibilities, effective oversight, and processes that support an organization’s objectives. These principles now guide his advisory work with nonprofit leaders.

Supporting nonprofits through practical governance

Today, Marc Broidy applies those insights through Paradeplatz Holdings, a Los Angeles-based advisory practice that works with nonprofit organizations in the United States and internationally. His focus lies at the intersection of governance, strategy, operational effectiveness, and organizational sustainability.

Marc Broidy describes his approach as one of “lived governance”, an understanding of organizational stewardship informed by his boardroom experience and his awareness of the consequences that can arise when oversight, accountability, and execution fall short. His role is not to direct an organization’s mission, but to help strengthen the systems, processes, and governance structures supporting its work.

Central to his approach is the principle of “best execution”: an approach that emphasizes the operational foundations supporting an organization’s mission. In his view, effective governance, board development, compliance awareness, and disciplined execution contribute to an organization’s ability to operate over the long term.

By helping nonprofit leaders strengthen these foundations, Marc Broidy aims to support organizational resilience, accountability, and consistent service delivery. His work focuses on helping institutions identify operational risks and develop the capacity to pursue their goals over time.

Experience across organizations and culture

Beyond his advisory work, Marc Broidy maintains a range of intellectual and cultural interests. A conversational French speaker, traveler, and reader, he has long been drawn to the arts and the organizational complexity involved in creative productions.

His background in theatrical lighting and production once led him to serve as lighting designer and stage manager for an opera production at the historic Salle Garnier in Monte Carlo. He says the experience illustrated how organizational performance depends on coordination among people with different roles, skills, and responsibilities.

Whether in an opera house, a nonprofit boardroom, or a strategic planning session, Broidy is interested in how people and institutions work together to achieve shared objectives.

Today, he views his future as an opportunity to continue contributing to nonprofit organizations. Drawing upon a family tradition of civic engagement, governance experience, and the perspective gained through reflection on his past, he seeks to help organizations strengthen their capacity to serve others.
