Divers searching for missing man make shocking discovery


Divers searching for a missing man in an Illinois pond ended up instead discovering the body of an Army vet who vanished more than two decades ago.

The body of James Pisano Jr., a 39-year-old father who mysteriously vanished in 2001, was found in a 1998 black Lincoln Town Car at the bottom of a small Hodgkins pond in September by divers assisting a cold-case unit probing the other missing-person’s case.

“For 24 long years, [Pisano’s] family carried unanswered questions while holding onto hope and memories of the man they loved,” his obituary said, noting the veteran quietly suffered a lifelong battle “with mental illness.

“In 2025, discoveries were finally made that confirmed his passing, bringing long-awaited answers alongside unimaginable grief.

“Though his life was marked by hardship and loss, John will be remembered for his spirit, his style, his love of music and dancing, and the deep love he held for his family,” the obit said.

The volunteer group Chaos Divers said they were helping to search for another man, Hiep Luu, who was reported missing in 2003, when they “unexpectedly” found Pisano’s remains in the vehicle.

Authorities said the water-logged Town Car was linked to Pisano’s missing-person’s report, which was filed nearly 25 years ago, ABC 7 Chicago reported.

Pisano, who “proudly” served in the Army at an early age, was remembered by kin as a devoted family man and music lover who “carried himself with confidence and charisma” and lived life to the fullest.

“Whether he was out dancing in his platform shoes and leather jacket or styling his hair just right, John brought energy and individuality everywhere he went,” according to his obituary, which likened him to actor John Travolta.

“He could be stubborn at times, but beneath that strong personality was a deeply caring man who loved his children immensely. Family meant everything to him, and his love for his kids remained constant throughout his life. … May he finally rest in peace.”
