Arsenal make approach to sign £39m PSG star after Champions League final | Football

Arsenal have made an approach to sign PSG winger Bradley Barcola after the Champions League final, according to reports.

The Gunners already have one eye on the summer transfer window despite bidding to win an incredible double in the final few weeks of the season.

Arsenal are in pole position to win their first Premier League title since 2004, sitting five points clear of Manchester City with three games remaining.

Mikel Arteta’s side have also impressed in Europe and beat Atletico Madrid earlier this week to book their place in a first Champions League final in 20 years.

Plans are already being made for the summer transfer window inside the Emirates Stadium as Arsenal attempt to become Premier League and European champions.

While Arsenal’s squad is relatively settled and has considerable strength in depth, club bosses are expected to target a new forward who can play on the left wing.

Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard have shared that responsibility this season but neither have set the world alight in an attack that has not always thrived.

Keen to bolster Arteta’s attacking options in the summer, Arsenal have already ‘gathered information’ and expressed interest in signing France international Barcola from Champions League final opponents PSG.

Barcola scored 21 goals in all competitions as PSG stormed to the Ligue 1 title and won their first ever Champions League last season.

The 23-year-old, who completed a £39m move from Lyon in 2023, has been less influential this term, however, and Sky Germany say a summer transfer is not off the table.

Arsenal are not alone in admiring Barcola, with Barcelona Bayern Munich and reigning Premier League champions Liverpool also keeping tabs on his situation.

It is claimed Arsenal are ‘very keen’ to strike a deal, however, and have opened talks to discuss the Frenchman’s move to north London.

Barcola, who is contracted to PSG until 2028, came on as a second-half substitute in the Champions League semi-final win over Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.

Arsenal have been urged to sign a new left-winger by Steven Gerrard, who believes the Gunners can bring in an upgrade on Martinelli and Trossard.

‘I think Arsenal will potentially go for a player on the left,’ the Liverpool legend and former England midfielder told TNT Sports last month.

‘I don’t think Gabriel Martinelli has been as good as he was previously maybe and Leandro Trossard is a good player but that is an area they might look at in terms of how to get the team and squad better.’

Arsenal will hope to move one step closer to winning the Premier League on Sunday when they visit relegation-battlers West Ham.
