Lufthansa and BMW Just Unveiled a Private Jet Cabin That Adapts to Any Group Trip, Called The BOW

Lufthansa Technik designers partnered with BMW’s Designworks studio to create something unique for narrowbody aircraft. It’s called The BOW, and it’s a VIP cabin concept that makes group flights feel cozy, providing individualized experiences for up to twenty-eight passengers who want some solitude while still being able to communicate while on the fly. That means groups of friends, colleagues, sports teams, or traveling bands may go somewhere that can accommodate anything they desire, whether it’s quiet time or a celebration.

The interior design has a flow to it, with curved lines running throughout, influenced by some of the sleeker shapes seen in cars. When they go in, they find themselves in a reception room that feels more like a lounge than an airport entry. There is a bar set up and ready to go, as well as a screen and service table that can pull out when needed, and the overall impression is of a high-quality, intimate area that is still somewhat open.

Next, you enter the central lounge, where people can conduct business or eat without interruption. Two large curved displays line the walls, ready for presentations or movies. You have one large table in the center that splits in half so that people can spread out for meetings or sit together for dinner. And when you need them, the controls emerge and then disappear when the job is completed.

The rest of the cabin is filled with individual suites, each designed for one or two guests. They include delicate curves and gentle bends that wrap around the chair, creating small nooks that can be totally closed off when you need some peace. If you wish to talk across the suites or have some space, the dividers may be slid into position or moved back. Some even move up and down automatically to vary the level of separation, and each suite has its own built-in storage for instruments, gear, and whatever else you need to keep.

Underneath it all, technology operates silently. The system is called ‘nice,’ and it’s what brings everything together: lighting, climate, seating, and media all in one spot. You can even hide touchscreens behind the tray tables; simply flip them up to begin browsing or ordering food. There are speakers in the walls and charging pads concealed beneath surfaces to keep your phone or laptop charged. In addition, mood lighting and pleasant scents will keep things comfy for hours.

The key to how it all works is modularity, which allows you to change the layout on demand to suit whatever you’re working on. Want fewer suites and a larger bar instead? Not an issue. Or a larger lounge area. You can color match and layout match before it even leaves the shop, and operators get a product that seems like it was designed just for them, without having to start from scratch every time.
