Arsenal vs Newcastle LIVE: Premier League latest score and confirmed lineups as Saka returns to bench | Football

Arsenal are looking to get back to winning ways and move back to the top of the Premier League table when they host Newcastle United this evening.

Back-to-back league defeats for Mikel Arteta’s side has seen the Gunners slip to second and behind Manchester City by virtue of goals scored.

But with Pep Guardiola’s side in FA Cup action today, Arsenal can temporarily return to the league’s summit with a win against an out-form Newcastle side, who have one won of their last seven in all competitions.

Arsenal are set to be boosted by the return of Bukayo Saka and Riccardo Calafiori to the matchday squad, but Jurrien Timber is expected to miss out once again.

Alan Shearer’s prediction

Speaking in his weekly Metro column, the former Newcastle striker said: ‘As much as I hope I’m wrong and I really hope I’m wrong, I see Arsenal bouncing back and winning this. I have no confidence in the form Newcastle are in. They need to come out and they need to improve. If they get beat, they have to go down fighting, and I didn’t see that last weekend against Bournemouth.

‘That was the hard thing to take from the defeat. When the managers under pressure and the players are having to prove a point, at least you need show some effort. That was the thing that hurt last weekend, the players have to come out with a response and fight for everything.

‘If they get beat, so be it, but they’ve got to do it with spirit. But I think Arsenal will bounce back with a home win, as much as it pains me to say it, but I hope I’m wrong.’

Saka back on the bench

So Saka is only fit enough for the bench, but one suspects we’ll see him in the second half. Gyokeres stays on the bench, too, with Havertz leading the line once again.

No sign of Calafiori, though, who Arteta said would be fit for this game…
