Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro are in contention to return to the starting lineup when Chelsea face Leeds United in FA Cup semi-finals.

Injuries meant both players were absent from Tuesday’s 3-0 defeat to Brighton, a loss which brought to an end Liam Rosenior’s ill-fated spell in charge of the Blues.

But Callum McFarlane, who has replaced Rosenior until the end of the season, revealed that both are back in training ahead of Sunday’s visit to Wembley.

‘Joao and Cole have trained,’ the new interim head coach said on Friday.

‘They’re in a good place. We don’t know yet. We’ve got another day tomorrow where we’ll look at that and make a decision.

‘Yes we hope [they could both start]. They’ll train tomorrow and we’ll make a call.’

However, it is not all good news on the injury front for Chelsea, with McFarlane confirming that Estevao will miss the rest of the season due to a serious hamstring injury picked up against Manchester United.

‘Estevao unfortunately won’t play for us this season,’ he added. ‘He’ll be out for a little bit of time. But we’re here to support him.’

Asked about the Brazilian international’s chances of recovering in time for the World Cup, McFarlane added: ‘I’m not sure on that if I’m honest.

‘He won’t be available for us. I’m sure he’s very hopeful he can make the World Cup but I don’t know on that.’

Elsewhere, Levi Colwill, Reece James, Jamie Gittens and Filip Jorgensen remain sidelined for the Blues.
