Tuin Doom Enhanced Mod Finally Lets You Rocket Through Doors in Classic DOOM

Tuin Doom Enhanced Mod Destroy Rocket Doors DOOM
Locked doors in classic DOOM levels have always forced a specific route, usually involving a colored key card found after clearing a few rooms of demons. Tuin Doom Enhanced, the customized Windows build created by the modder known as tuin and based on Duct-Tape DOOM, removes that restriction. Rockets and exploding barrels now carve real openings through walls, doors, floors, and ceilings, and the resulting holes affect both how the level looks and how the player can move through it. A door that once blocked progress can be breached from either side, after which the player can walk or shoot straight through the gap while the damaged door continues to open and close with its holes still intact.

Settings determine how brutal you can get with the damage. Wall damage increases from normal to five times greater, and there’s an option to boost the destructive force even further with the “deeper digging” mode, which may blow craters 4096 map units. Furthermore, bullet strikes and frequent shooting can begin to chip away at surfaces and send debris flying, whereas a barrel blast can leave a hole large enough for a monster truck to become stuck in. A slider in the in-game settings allows you to enable or disable the “doors breaky-cracky” feature, and the developers have worked on the margins of those breaches to ensure that movement through them feels the same on both sides. In addition, the most recent version includes additional improvements to make the game run more smoothly. They’re reusing the same old crater geometry on the CPU and GPU, distributing the monster pathfinding work across frames and making it easier to replace all those damaged doors.

There’s also a slew of additional features, such as new animations, recoil patterns, muzzle effects, and inspection motions for all nine traditional firearms under the Fluid Weapons and FluidMonsters system (which may be enabled or disabled in the settings menu). What makes it even better? Fifteen new ground-based monster kinds that can move around as they used to. There’s also a choice of two HUD layouts (classic or modern), better lighting that doesn’t overwhelm you with too many colors, and a single launcher that lets you load up your own DOOM, DOOM II, Final DOOM, or Freedoom IWAD and some compatible map WADs, as well as SIGIL episode support for Ultimate DOOM.

The destruction is still somewhat experimental, in that holes can still be used to circumvent locked doors and skip some of the map advancement, and performance will continue to be determined on how crazy and complex a level is and how much damage you’ve previously caused. The majority of old and Boom-format maps will work nicely, but not so much for GZDoom or UDMF. To run it, you’ll need a Vulkan-capable graphics card, Windows x64 with.NET Framework 4.5 or later, and your own commercial game data. If you’re intrigued, you can get all of the code and the most recent Windows build from the project’s GitHub page.
