Bringing together engineers, researchers, founders, and AI practitioners from around the world, Wave Hackathon 2026 provided a platform to transform innovative ideas into practical solutions for real-world challenges.
Artificial intelligence is transforming industries, from healthcare and cybersecurity to financial services and AI Governance. Bringing together innovators from across these domains, Wave Hackathon 2026 concluded after a month-long global competition focused on developing practical AI solutions for real-world challenges.
Organized by New iDea Solutions LLC with technical sponsorship from the ACM Seattle Chapter, the virtual hackathon ran from May 27 to June 26, 2026, attracting more than 100 software engineers, AI practitioners, researchers, founders, and technology professionals from around the world. Competing for prizes and recognition, participants collaborated to develop functional, scalable AI applications.
From vision to prototype
Unlike traditional hackathons focused primarily on rapid prototyping, Wave Hackathon adopted a structured two-phase format that evaluated both technical planning and execution. Teams first submitted a one-page technical proposal, outlining the problem they intended to solve, the technologies they planned to use, and their implementation strategy. Following review, selected teams advanced to the development phase, refining their solutions before presenting them during the virtual Showcase Day on June 26.
The competition featured four innovation tracks aligned with some of the fastest-growing applications of artificial intelligence: AI-Powered Health & MedTech, AI-Driven Cyber Defense, AI in FinTech & Smart Finance, and Data Ethics & Policy Governance in AI. Across these tracks, participants tackled challenges including clinical decision support, intelligent threat detection, fraud prevention, privacy, regulatory compliance, and responsible AI.
The competition emphasized practical implementation, encouraging participants to build technically sound solutions with real-world relevance and the potential for impact beyond the hackathon.
Expert leadership and evaluation

A highlight of Showcase Day was the keynote address by Bret Waters, an instructor at Stanford University and internationally recognized technology leader. Drawing on decades of experience in entrepreneurship and innovation, Waters encouraged participants to build solutions with meaningful, measurable impact. His keynote underscored the importance of combining engineering excellence with strategic thinking, reinforcing the hackathon’s emphasis on creating AI solutions with practical value.
Wave Hackathon’s technical direction was guided by an accomplished Advisory Board representing both academia and industry. The board included Bret Waters, Inwoo Kim, Nikhil Jain, Abhilash Kalwa, Dharmateja Priyadarshi Uddandarao, Bhaskar Rajbongshi, Vivek Kadam, Brajendra Gupta, and Dr. Anamika Yadav. Their expertise in artificial intelligence, enterprise software, cloud computing, and data engineering helped shape the hackathon’s innovation tracks, evaluation framework, and overall vision.
The event was coordinated by Co-Conveners Alekhya Challa, Sravani Lingam, Manushi Seth, and Rohit Nagpal, together with the organizing team from New iDea Solutions LLC. They oversaw every stage of the competition, from participant registration and proposal evaluations to mentoring activities and Showcase Day.
Projects were evaluated by an experienced panel of judges comprising senior engineers, architects, AI specialists, product managers, and technology leaders from organizations including Samsung SmartThings, Microsoft, Amazon, Apple, Google, Salesforce, Stripe, American Express, Ericsson, Fidelity Investments, Informatica, Zurich North America, BNP Paribas, Citadel Enterprises LLC, and several other leading technology companies. Projects were evaluated on innovation, technical implementation, scalability, business relevance, and real-world impact.
Showcase day highlights
After weeks of development and collaboration, the competition culminated in Showcase Day on June 26, where finalist teams presented their completed solutions during a full day of virtual sessions. Teams showcased AI-powered applications addressing challenges across healthcare, cybersecurity, financial services, and responsible AI.
In addition to the project presentations, Showcase Day featured expert talks from industry professionals who shared insights into enterprise software engineering, artificial intelligence, cloud technologies, product strategy, and career development. The invited speaker lineup included Sriram Ramakrishnan, Sai Charan Obuladinne, Mayank Dwivedi, Rang Ganesh Singh, Sai Sandeep Koneti, and Madhukar Dongala, sharing practical perspectives from leading technology organizations.
The event also featured a Book Showcase, where Abhilash Pakalapati, Ankush Sanjay Mahajan, and Sheetal Tatiya presented their published works and shared insights on emerging topics in artificial intelligence, software engineering, cybersecurity, and related technologies. The session highlighted the broader contributions of technology professionals beyond software development, providing attendees with an opportunity to engage with the authors and explore ideas at the intersection of research, innovation, and industry.
The event concluded with the announcement of the competition’s top-performing teams. Team Mind Merge claimed the Grand Champion title as the overall winner of Wave Hackathon 2026. Team Med Fort AI earned the Innovation Vanguard Award for securing second place, while Team TransProtect AI received the Horizon Award in recognition of its third-place finish.
The winning teams embodied the hackathon’s goal of transforming innovative ideas into practical AI solutions for real-world challenges. Their achievements reflected the technical excellence and collaborative spirit that defined Wave Hackathon 2026.
