Philips Skylight Puts Convincing Daylight Right Overhead

Philips Skylight Natural Ceiling Light Fixture
Most people now spend the majority of their waking hours indoors. This shift has disconnected many people from the constant variations in natural light that once divided the day from morning alertness to evening relaxation. Philips designed the new SkyLight ceiling fixture to provide some of that experience without requiring a hole in the roof or a view of the sky.

The fixture is installed flush against the ceiling, with a slim white frame that rises only a few centimeters above the surface. Two sizes accommodate a variety of room sizes. The medium one is about 65 by 45 cm and provides up to 3200 lumens, making it suitable for rooms up to 20 square meters. The larger version, measuring 90 by 60 cm, generates a respectable 5300 lumens and is appropriate for rooms up to 30 square meters. Both have an IP44 rating, suggesting that they can survive moisture and are appropriate for use in bathrooms or other damp areas where ordinary fixtures may be insufficient.

The arrangement of lights is what actually characterizes the Skylight. Signify, Philips’ parent company, used its NatureConnect technology to connect various LED channels. There are two sets: one for the brighter, bluer portion that depicts the sky above, and another for the warmer, more directed section that resembles sunshine. The optical design adds depth and levels to the display, making the brilliant middle part appear like a window rather than a flat sheet of glow. As a result, the illumination is equal throughout the space, with no glaring hotspots or dark areas.

The day follows an automated pattern, with brilliant light in the morning and cooler light temperatures at midday. This uses Philips BioUp LEDs, which focus on blue wavelengths to help you feel more alert throughout the day. As the day advances and nightfall approaches, the light softens and warms, making the scene more peaceful. Five preset scenarios sit on top of the automatic cycle, allowing you to instantly switch to a focused work environment, a general daytime mode, or a calmer evening atmosphere with the provided remote.

A additional VitaUp version contains a UV-B module to help raise your body’s natural vitamin D levels while you’re trapped inside. The module includes several built-in safety features, such as an automated shut-off after eight hours. It is not intended to be a medical treatment or a replacement for getting outside in the sun, but rather to provide an extra hand for people who spend a lot of time indoors.

It’s simple to install because it is a surface-mount fixture rather than a recessed one. Plus, Skylight connects to standard household wiring, however it requires the provided remote to function rather than a usual wall switch. This simplifies things, but it also means that the SkyLight isn’t integrated with any larger smart-home platforms. Unlike many other Philips lighting devices, it does not support Wi-Fi, Zigbee, or Matter connectivity. Pricing starts around 500 euros for the medium model and 600 euros for the large one. Adding the VitaUp module will cost you approximately 100 euros. They began delivering to European markets in June 2026, with wider availability in the United States scheduled for later that year.
