Anbernic RG Rotate Handheld Officially Unveiled, Boasts Swiveling Screen

Anbernic RG Rotate Handheld
Anbernic’s new throwback handheld, the RG Rotate, is bringing swivel screens, which were once the hallmark of flip phones, right up to date. When closed, this device resembles a compact music player or a stylish small device that can hang off a backpack. The square display rotates 90 degrees on a specially made, incredibly thin metal hinge when you gently nudge it. You won’t have to worry about the hinge failing on you anytime soon because it is designed to endure years of regular use.

The 3.95-inch square screen, which has a 1:1 ratio and 720 by 720 resolution, is suitable for classic games that require vertical or entirely square viewpoints. Games from the Game Boy period, vertical shooters, and even some arcade ports will no longer have stretched or letterboxed graphics.

You can choose the materials for your RG Rotate. Want the quality feel of an aluminum alloy shell, or do you prefer the lighter weight ABS plastic? You may have it in either Polar Black or Aurora Silver. The silver variant combines the metal frame and the body, creating a sleek, subtle design that fits perfectly in. Controls are very simple; a directional pad and four face buttons handle the most of the input, while the L2 and R2 shoulder buttons are height adjustable, ensuring that your hands fit comfortably regardless of size. There are also no analog sticks, which keeps things neat and makes it ideal for 2D favorites as well as many 3D titles from the N64 and PSX eras. Android is the main operating system, so you can run emulators or just listen to music / podcasts when the screen is closed.

Power comes from a 2000mAh battery, which charges at 10 watts via the single USB-C port, and you’re ready for some decent sessions during shorter commutes or lunch breaks. Bluetooth handles wireless audio; there is no 3.5mm jack on this device, by the way. There is a microSD slot for extending storage on the fly for large game collections. The price, processor, RAM, and internal storage specs will be kept under wraps until closer to launch, but early leaks indicate that this thing is hardware-tuned for smooth play all the way up to the N64 era.
