Six Wheels Transform a Classic Ferrari Testarossa Into What Gas Monkey Garage Calls the F6

Gas Monkey Garage has wrapped up work on a one-of-a-kind Ferrari Testarossa turned into a six-wheeled machine they call the F6. The project wrapped with a public reveal on May 23, complete with track runs that showed the car in action. Richard Rawlings and his crew pushed through more than 18 months of effort to reach this point.

Rawling first collaborated with Danton Arts Kustoms and Frechy Exports to get the project started, as photographs surfaced online in September 2024, and the plans called for a significant overhaul of the original vehicle. When that partnership went apart, Rawlings teamed up with John Clay Wolf from Give Me the Vin to finish it themselves. The split resulted in some extra time and issues, but the team persevered and the car is now complete.

The mechanics removed the factory flat-12 engine from the donor Testarossa and replaced it with a supercharged 6.2 liter LT4 V8 from a C7 Corvette Z06. That engine produces around 1,200 horsepower through a custom drivetrain that sends power to only the four rear wheels; while Gas Monkey described it as an all-wheel drive setup, it’s worth noting that the front axle receives no power. They also installed a new transmission and reinforced some other parts just in case. To ensure that the car could manage the extra power, the team equipped the vehicle with a completely independent rear suspension and Wilwood brakes to slow it down.

In terms of the exterior, the bodywork largely adhered to the original Testarossa shape in the areas that mattered, such as the new Rosso Corsa red paint job, fixed headlights in place of the previous pop-up ones, a blacked-out chin spoiler up front, flared wheel arches to give it a wider stance, and a large rear wing bolted directly to the chassis to provide some downforce, while the engine cover and gills on top of the taillights remain black.

Inside, the car takes some cues from the Ferrari F40, as the original trim was removed to save weight, and they installed some carbon fiber backed Recaro bucket seats for the driver and passenger, a three spoke Momo steering wheel sits in front of a digital instrument cluster, and an exposed shifter rounds out the minimalist interior. Rawlings stated that the F6 is the best and most ambitious project his shop has ever worked on, and Wolfe was overjoyed to find the right buyer for it, as they put the F6 up for sale for $1.5 million practically immediately after finishing it.
