The hospital said it was \u200bsettling the investigation \u201cto protect our resources from endless and costly litigation\u201d and return to focusing on patient care.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe stand proud knowing we will \u200balways put our purpose over politics and that we have and will continue to follow the law,\u201d the hospital said.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>A hospital spokesperson said the detransition clinic \u201cwill formalize the supportive, multidisciplinary services we already deliver to all patients who need our care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Civil rights groups and some Democratic lawmakers condemned the settlement, saying \u200bit placed politics over sound medical practice and was an attempt to stigmatize transgender people and push them out of public \u200blife.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is deeply appalling to see (the hospital) capitulate to the relentless pressure campaigns of both AG Paxton and the Trump Administration to end this care \u200cand \u2060penalize physicians who faithfully and lawfully provided it,\u201d said Karen Loewy, senior counsel at Lambda Legal, an LGBTQ advocacy group.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Five doctors who performed gender-affirming procedures for transgender youth at the hospital will also be fired. <span class=\"credit\">ZUMAPRESS.com<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Reuters could not immediately obtain a copy of the settlement agreement.<\/p>\n<p>The Justice Department said its investigation found that the hospital has violated federal laws prohibiting fraud, conspiracy and making false claims to the government.<\/p>\n<p>The hospital cooperated with the probe, \u201cas highlighted by its multi-million-dollar commitment to providing care \u200bto the victims who most need \u200bit,\u201d the department said.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement \u2060is a significant victory for opponents of gender-affirming treatment for minors, including the Trump administration.<\/p>\n<p>The Justice Department is investigating providers across the country, including\u00a0a criminal probe\u00a0involving one of New York City\u2019s \u200bmajor hospital networks, for providing treatment such as hormone therapy and surgeries to minors.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Texas AG Ken Paxton said the hospital would pay $10M over alleged Medicaid billing for gender-affirming treatments. <span class=\"credit\">REUTERS<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Under the terms \u200bof the settlement \u2060announced on Friday, Texas Children\u2019s will establish the first-ever multidisciplinary clinic designed to reverse the effects of gender transition procedures, Paxton\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n<p>For the first five years, the hospital will provide those services free of charge to patients.<\/p>\n<p>The unidentified doctors who will be fired under the \u2060settlement \u201cperformed harmful \u200binterventions on Texans,\u201d Paxton\u2019s office said.
