all along \u2014 sort of.<\/p>\n<p>The internet is going wild over how \u201cThe X-Files\u201d and \u201cThe Simpsons\u201d supposedly \u201cpredicted\u201d the hantavirus outbreak \u2014 with observers calling plot parallels a \u201ccrazy coincidence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cX-Files called the Hantavirus 20 years ago,\u201d one user wrote on X.<\/p>\n<p>In a scene from the 1998 movie, \u201cThe X-Files: Fight the Future,\u201d a whistleblower meets Agent Mulder in a dark alley and reveals how a phony hantavirus outbreak was used as a cover-up for an alien virus.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>\u201cThe X Files\u201d movie was credited for predicting elements of the hantavirus outbreak. <span class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cYeah, it was a deadly virus spread by field mice in the Southwestern United States several years ago,\u201d Mulder replies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFEMA was called out to manage an outbreak of the hantavirus \u2026 are you familiar with what FEMA\u2019s real power is?\u201d the informant asks. \u201cI\u2019m saying it wasn\u2019t the hantavirus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[It\u2019s a] silent weapon in a quiet war,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n<p>While dozens of hantavirus cases were reported in the US in the 1990s, some observers wrongly credited the movie with coining the name of the virus \u2014\u00a0which has been around since at least the 1950s.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image basically part of the show\u2019s legacy at this point,\u201d another user wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Others flew into full conspiracy theory mode.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Hantavirus scheme will be used during the UFO disclosure to serve as a form of distraction,\u201d said another X user, referencing a trove of UFO files released by the Pentagon Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, some people online pointed to a 2012 episode of \u201cThe Simpsons\u201d in which a virus breaks out while the family is on a cruise.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Simpsons predicted the Hantavirus back in 2012,\u201d one user tweeted, along with footage of the show.<\/p>\n<p>In the episode,\u00a0 Bart starts\u00a0a rumor that there\u2019s a pandemic-level virus spreading\u00a0back on the mainland so he can stay on the ship.<\/p>\n<p>Observers drew comparisons between the fictional cruise ship and the<span style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px\">\u00a0MV Hondius, which had a deadly hantavirus outbreak aboard<\/span> last week \u2014 even though there was never a virus on the animated ship.<\/p>\n<p>Others pointed to a \u201cpurple\u201d virus symptom referenced in the episode, titled \u201cA totally Fun Thing Bart Will Never do Again,\u201d noting a lack of oxygen from hantavirus can cause extremities to appear bluish or purplish.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The that\u2019s like the symptoms of hantavirus,\u201d one commenter wrote on X.<\/p>\n<p>Other folks totally had a cow, man.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px\">\u201cWow, they really are profits [sic] !\u201d one user wrote about<\/span> the \u201cThe Simpsons\u201d writers, who have been credited with predicting everything from\u00a0Donald Trump\u2019s presidency\u00a0to Siegfried
