Radhakrishnan Karthik Nair, 47, an Indian national who was technical superintendent for the Dali container ship, was also charged.<\/p>\n<p>The Dali crashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge on March 26, 2024, killing six construction workers who had been filling potholes.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The Singapore-based operator of the ship that\u00a0crashed into Baltimore\u2019s Francis Scott Key Bridge has been indicted along with a key employee, federal prosecutors said Tuesday. <span class=\"credit\">U.S. Coast Guard District 5<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The companies and Nair are charged with conspiracy, willfully failing to immediately inform the U.S. Coast Guard of a known hazardous condition, obstruction of an agency proceeding, and false statements.<\/p>\n<p>An FBI\u00a0investigation into the crash\u00a0focused on the vessel\u2019s operations and whether the crew knew of critical systems issues before leaving port.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>The National Transportation Safety Board\u00a0found last year\u00a0that two electrical blackouts \u2014 one caused by a loose wire aboard the Dali and another by problems with a fuel pump \u2014 disabled the controls of the huge cargo ship before it crashed into the bridge.<\/p>\n<p>The Dali was leaving Baltimore bound for Sri Lanka when its steering failed because of the power loss. Two people were pulled from the river by rescuers.<\/li>\n<li>Seven vehicles were missing after falling from the 1.6-mile-long span. Plaintiffs include\u00a0the families\u00a0of the six construction workers who died, owners of cargo that was on the ship, and local governments seeking damages for economic losses.
