That\u2019s what he thought,\u201d Boardley\u2019s father, Warren Boardley Sr., told reporters during a press conference on Tuesday, according to WBAL.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Warren Boardley Jr. drives a tractor-trailer on the New Jersey Turnpike moments before a United Airlines flight clipped the truck landing at Newark airport on May 3, 2026. <span class=\"credit\">H&amp;S Family of Bakeries<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The 39-year-old driver was captured on dashcam video looking out his passenger side as the Boeing 767-400 approached the runway and hit his tractor-trailer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said he seen a flash and it made him duck and put up his hands, and in doing so, that\u2019s how I believe he struck his head,\u201d Boardley Sr. said.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cHad he been going one mile per hour faster, or one mile per hour slower, it would have more than likely killed him, more than likely. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat alone shook me to my core, you know, to lose my son and to be able to see it, nobody wants to see it, no parent wants to see it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Officials said Boardley Jr., who has since been transported back to Baltimore, suffered minimal injuries in the crash, but his father added there may be some underlying brain issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe has some physical injuries, he\u2019s sore all over, of course, due to the impact that plane hit that truck,\u201d Boardley Sr. said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis mental and emotional status is coming. Wyndal Gordon described Boardley Jr.\u2019s injuries as \u201cblunt-force trauma to the head\u201d adding that he may have suffered a form of \u201cclosed-head trauma,\u201d but further evaluation is needed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWarren Jr. is in acute distress, he\u2019s suffering severe pain and he\u2019s doing his best to relax at home,\u201d Gordon said.<\/p>\n<p>The elder Boardley celebrated the fact is son survived the crash and that his family wasn\u2019t planning a funeral.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday could\u2019ve been the day we were mourning his loss, but instead our prayers and everything have been heard,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ve never known anyone that walked away from something like that.
