But he has started every game he has been available for since Carrick took the reins, missing games against Leeds and Chelsea through suspension.<\/p>\n<p>While midfield is an area of the pitch that needs major surgery this summer, United\u2019s options in defence are also under scrutiny. Matthijs de Ligt has not played since the end of November due to a back injury while Lisandro Martinez has also had fitness issues again this season.<\/p>\n<p>Ayden Heaven has impressed filling in for the Argentine who has missed the last three games through suspension with he and Leny Yoro regarded as a partnership for the future on the red half of Manchester.<\/p>\n<p>Former United right-back Parker is big admirer of Heaven and believes he should have got his chance sooner, having had to wait for Carrick\u2019s 12<sup>th<\/sup> game in charge for a starting role. <\/p>\n<p>But Parker also took aim at Maguire, questioning his leadership qualities and the faith United have shown in him.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img width=\"594\" height=\"396\" src=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/GettyImages-2273910291.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=594\" class=\"article-image wp-image-28241345\" alt=\"Manchester United v Liverpool - Premier League\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>\t<\/div><figcaption>Maguire signed a new contract last month (Picture: Getty)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u2018He [Heaven] should have been given an opportunity earlier in Carrick\u2019s reign,\u2019 Parker told <strong>Metro<\/strong> via Nettotobak.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I think he\u2019s doing his bit now, but he\u2019s come in and he\u2019s done well. He\u2019s earned his contract, I think, in certain ways, because he\u2019s done okay. But if you want to move forward, you don\u2019t move forward with Harry Maguire. So you go out and you get another centre half.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018You\u2019ve got Martinez and you\u2019ve got Yoro there as well, but you don\u2019t need an older statesman who\u2019s been there. United should look at him at this moment, and I would look at Murillo at Nottingham Forest, those are the two that I would look at.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Someone like Murillo in there, who\u2019s got pace as well as pace is important.
