Murphy Navy SEAL Museum in Suffolk County on a special truck as part of a cross-country tour.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Several Long Islanders paid their respects to a beam from the World Trade Center on Monday. <span class=\"credit\">John Roca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Cain recalled how her 35-year-old son was a \u201chappy bachelor\u201d and avid skier who would have turned 60 next week, had it not been for the 2001 terror attack.<\/p>\n<p>The Ladder 7 Bravest was killed by the collapsing skyscraper while evacuating the nearby Marriott Downtown hotel with members of his 29th Street firehouse.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Rosemary Cain was emotional while remembering and honoring her FDNY son, George. <span class=\"credit\">John Roca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThere are times when you do feel that people have forgotten and society has forgotten,\u201d Cain said.<\/p>\n<p>The beam was brought to the Sayville site for the day by the Tunnel To Towers organization and the museum.<\/p>\n<p>The event was part of Tunnel To Towers\u2019 \u201cSteel Across America\u201d tour, which is making 35 cross-country stops in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p>The goal is to physically remind the nation of the sacrifices made by those such as George Cain on the upcoming 25th anniversary of the terror attack.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The beam will be toured to 35 locations across the United States. <span class=\"credit\">John Roca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll make sure people realize when they put their hand on that steel, that there was a tremendous sacrifice made that day,\u201d said Tunnel to Towers\u2019 founder Frank Siller, who lost his younger brother, FDNY member Stephen, in the South Tower.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n\t<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s what we want all over the United States.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Siller and the organization have spent the past quarter-century fundraising and supporting the military and first-responder community through philanthropic gestures such as paying mortgages for families of those lost in the line of duty.<\/p>\n<p>The Murphy Museum was the third stop on the newly launched tour, following Ground Zero in Lower Manhattan and Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island.<\/p>\n<p>Stephen Siller\u2019s son, Stephen Jr., has already been overpowered by emotion from the initiative.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can feel the weight of that day when you see the steel beam,\u201d said Stephen, who lost his father when he was just a 9-month-old infant and now works full time for Tunnel to Towers.<\/p>\n<p>He said he was truly touched to see a nearly hourlong line snake around the museum grounds, filled with people waiting to pay their respects.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The Murphy family was honored at the event. <span class=\"credit\">John Roca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re indebted to places like this,\u201d Siller said of Long Island.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey really keep our foundation alive and going strong.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>September 11, 2001, especially hits home at the museum, according to executive director and former SEAL Chris Wylie.<\/p>\n<p>He said an estimated 75% to 80% of weekly visitors \u2013 including children \u2013 have an unfortunate connection to the dark day.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The beam was given a police escort in. <span class=\"credit\">John Roca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The same is true for Medal of Honor recipient Murphy, who died wearing an FDNY patch on his uniform during the ill-fated \u201cOperation Red Wings\u201d of 2005, which the 2013 film \u201cLone Survivor\u201d portrayed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Patchogue-born lieutenant, nicknamed \u201cThe Protector\u201d while a teen lifeguard at Lake Ronkonkoma, was given the Fire Department arm sleeve accessory by two friends from his high school job, Jimmy and Owen O\u2019Callaghan, who later joined the FDNY.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was basically to remind them of why they were in Afghanistan,\u201d said Murphy\u2019s father, Dan, who added that many of his son\u2019s warrior comrades also sported the patch.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Many took time to honor Lt. Michael Murphy\u2019s heroic legacy. <span class=\"credit\">John Roca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWhen Michael was killed, and they recovered Michael\u2019s body, the SEALs cut the patch out of Michael\u2019s uniform, had it cleaned with the blood and everything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Murphy, who was in the middle of Basic Underwater Demolition\/SEAL training when 9\/11 occurred, had his patch posthumously presented to the FDNY along with a SEAL Trident.<\/p>\n<p>The 29-year-old deliberately exposed himself to Taliban fire to call in reinforcements to try saving his four-man team, of which only Marcus Luttrell survived.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Officers of many police departments stood at attention as the beam had passed. <span class=\"credit\">John Roca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cHe wore it on every mission,\u201d Dan said of his son\u2019s FDNY patch.<\/p>\n<p>Dan visits Michael\u2019s grave at Calverton National Cemetery twice a week to keep his boy abreast of what\u2019s happening at the museum.<\/p>\n<p>The beam will next travel to the 9\/11 crash site of Flt. 93 in Shanksville, Pa., on Thursday to honor the brave passengers who stormed the cockpit and fought the Washington, DC-bound hijackers to the death.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Many Long Islanders somberly honored the beam. <span class=\"credit\">John Roca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWhen thousands and thousands of people get to see [the beam], maybe that will spark some resurgence of patriotism and more respect for what happened that day,\u201d Cain said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd make sure that doesn\u2019t happen again.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!-- \u603b\u5bb9\u5668\uff1a\u6700\u5927\u5bbd908px Grid\u7d27\u51d1\u5e03\u5c40 -->\r\n<div style=\"display: grid;
