Some single tickets rose as high as $500.<\/p>\n<p>JetBlue also upping service at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida, which was home to Spirit Airlines\u2019 main hub, the company announced in a news release.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Six \u201cnew JetBlue cities,\u201d including the Charlotte, North Carolina hotspot, which the airline pulled out of in 2024 due to a lack of customer demand, were included in the announcement. <\/p>\n<p>The cities, which also include Indianapolis, Columbus and Baltimore, will operate daily JetBlue flights to Fort Lauderdale beginning later in the year. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Spirit axed all future flights on Saturday. <span class=\"credit\">AFP via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cOur focus is on stepping up in the near term by adding service, maintaining connectivity, and keeping fares competitive, so customers can continue to travel with confidence,\u201d JetBlue CEO Joanna Geraghty said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>JetBlue hasn\u2019t flown out of the Charlotte Douglas International\u00a0Airport since 2024. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The airline also said it will extend interview opportunities to qualified Spirit employees impacted by the shutdown. An estimated 17,000 employees lost their jobs when Spirit began shuttering on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe got to know many of their crewmembers during our acquisition talks, and we\u2019re thinking about everyone whose lives are being disrupted. We want to help fill the void created by this loss,\u201d Geraghty said.<\/p>\n<p>Spirit officials solemnly announced that the airline was winding down operations \u201ceffective immediately\u201d\u00a0after failing to secure a $500 million bailout from the federal government on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>All other future flights have been\u00a0cancelled, and\u00a0customer service is no longer available.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>JetBlue cited a lack of customer interest when it pulled out of the Charlotte airport. <span class=\"credit\">Roman Tiraspolsky \u2013 stock.adobe.com<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Spirit promised inconvenienced customers refunds\u00a0but\u00a0isn\u2019t\u00a0offering to\u00a0help them book travel with other airlines.
