Listen. Listen. Just touch my hand, man, I\u2019m praying with you,\u201d said Richardson to the man.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The officer, for about 40 minutes, kept up a steady stream of conversation and outreach to the man, who was teetering on the edge of the bridge, looking at the water below him.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Richardson told the man, as he kept his arm outstretched, \u201cIf you jump, you\u2019re going to hurt other people. And they\u2019re going to be hurting just like you\u2019re hurting now \u2026 The cycle\u2019s gotta stop.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"embed-wrapper twitter\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Whatever you\u2019re going through, you can get through it.<\/p>\n<p>Those are the words Officer Antonio Richardson shared with a young man on Sunday, April 12. Other officers then stepped in as well.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Appearing on \u201cFox &amp; Friends\u201d to discuss the incident this week, Richardson said, \u201cWhen I got the call \u2026 I was just there to stop the traffic. And then a couple of other officers who knew\u00a0my position as a pastor\u00a0asked me to come over and talk with the guy \u2026 Nothing was scripted \u2026 I did not want to see him jump,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just felt within myself that God was going to spare his life \u2014 and he did.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Antonio Richardson of the Jacksonville Police Department, who helped end the bridge crisis. <span class=\"credit\">FOX News<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>He also said, \u201cI was praying. And God spared his life. And we connected. And as a result of that connection, he didn\u2019t jump.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Officer Richardson has more than 30 years of ministry experience, according to reports. He said that after the man was safe and the immediate drama had passed,\u00a0the officer called his wife, sat in his patrol car \u2014 \u201cand wept like a baby.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pastor Jesse Bradley of the Seattle area, who runs Grace Community Church and is the founder of the ministry\u00a0Just Choose Hope, watched the video of the dramatic incident.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Richardson prays with the man before they share a hug after he steps away from the bridge edge. <span class=\"credit\">FOX News<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>He told Fox News Digital, \u201cThis powerful story reminds us that we can all love our neighbors and be part of the solution in our nation. Every person is made in God\u2019s image, loved by Jesus \u2014 and life is a gift.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cWe are made to\u00a0receive and give hope\u00a0daily, where we live, work, learn and play.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bradley also said that people should \u201cbe intentional about pursuing others who are in need. Take relationship risks. In the\u00a0parable of the Good Samaritan, there were two religious people who played it safe and remained in their comfort zone. We have a greater calling,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnly the Samaritan was willing to go to the man in pain and bring restoration. Let\u2019s be people who cross the road to provide. Let\u2019s be faithful to God. Love is intentional, takes action \u2014 and makes sacrifices. Let\u2019s love and live like Jesus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bradley observed that the inspiring story out of Florida \u201cpoints us to the greatest rescue story of all. Jesus left heaven to pursue us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cWe have all sinned against God and need a Savior. Jesus died on the cross, offering forgiveness, and rose from the grave to give us eternal life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstead of being separated from God,\u201d he added, \u201cwe can have peace with God\u00a0and a full pardon through Jesus. This is grace, an undeserved gift.
