I thought it was really interesting that they liked that the most,\u201d said Katsimatides, who has served on the 9\/11 museum\u2019s board for nearly a decade.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Camilla] said, \u2018Are you happy with this place?\u2019 I said, \u2018This is the most important place to me because when I\u2019m long gone, this is the official repository of John\u2019s memory,&#8217;\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor people who lived through that day and lost their loved one in such a horrific way \u2014 John was never recovered \u2014 people don\u2019t understand how important this memorial is to us,\u201d Katsimatides continued. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is where John took his final breath. To me, this is everything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>James and Patrick Dowdell were also pleasantly surprised at how \u201cpersonal\u201d the moment was, with the brothers expecting the royals to offer a handshake and breeze on to the next family on line.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Fire Lt. Kevin Dowdell, who was one of the eight members of FDNY Rescue Company 4 killed in the attacks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe really appreciated him stopping by,\u201d said James, who followed in his father\u2019s footsteps in the wake of his death and was recently promoted to lieutenant \u2014 the same rank his hero dad held at the time of his death.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was a great man who lived a life of service and died with his whole company down here,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>James was wearing his uniform for the occasion, which earned him a compliment from the king: \u201cVery sharp!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The opportunity to tell the monarch about their father was a \u201chumbling experience,\u201d said Patrick, who followed his dad\u2019s legacy by graduating from West Point and enlisting in the military.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Patrick, second from left, and James, center, told King Charles about their hero father and his legacy.  <span class=\"credit\">Paul Martinka<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The brothers are eager to tell their father\u2019s story as the years wear on, especially to those who are too young to recall the attacks that killed 2,977 victims.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s just a huge amount of people that don\u2019t have a personal connection to it, so we try to make a personal connection: \u2018here\u2019s who we are, here\u2019s a little bit about our family and our dad and what he did.\u2019 It makes it a little bit more personal to people, and they can connect to it a little bit easier,\u201d said Patrick. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt doesn\u2019t seem like it was that long ago because it\u2019s just always there. But, we have kids now, and they\u2019re learning. They know who grandpa Kevin was and what he did.
