We thought he\u2019d be okay but he didn\u2019t quite progress quick enough. It\u2019s nothing too serious but unfortunately he misses out tonight.\u2019<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"463\" src=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/GettyImages-2266357625.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=646\" class=\"article-image wp-image-27485164\" alt=\"Manchester United v Aston Villa - Premier League\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>\t<\/div><figcaption>Matheus Cunha has scored eight league goals this season (Picture: Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In Cunha\u2019s absence, Carrick went for a front three of Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Amad Diallo, with Bruno Fernandes behind.<\/p>\n<p>Patrick Dorgu also returned to the squad, on the bench after recovering from a hamstring injury.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the match, Carrick told MUTV: \u2018Patrick\u2019s looking to get back closer to the group in a very small part, which is fantastic, because he\u2019s worked so hard over a period of time now.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018So it\u2019ll be good to have him back in and around the group within the next week or so.\u2019<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"431\" src=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/GettyImages-2270786810.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=646\" class=\"article-image wp-image-27973658\" alt=\"Manchester United v Leeds United - Premier League\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>\t<\/div><figcaption>Michael Carrick had to do without Cunha at Old Trafford (Picture: Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Carrick was also full of praise for Kobbie Mainoo, who is in the starting XI again on Monday, saying: \u2018He\u2019s got an awful lot of experience in big occasions and big games at such a young age. <\/p>\n<p>\u2018We just want to get him on the pitch and feeling that rhythm again. He\u2019s done terrific. <\/p>\n<p>\u2018Against Chelsea he was as good as he\u2019s been. I\u2019m conscious not to overload him and overhelp him.
