Another plank of his far-left agenda is to take apart the state\u2019s energy companies.<\/p>\n<p>Steyer has relished into branding PG&amp;E as one of his top enemies. In a campaign ad launched in December, he states that \u201cPG&amp;E really p***** me off.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>California gubernatorial candidate and US entrepreneur Tom Steyer  <span class=\"credit\">AFP via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>He blamed California\u2019s sky-high energy bills on the corporation and pledged to cut utility rates by 25%.<\/p>\n<p>The way to do that, he said, is to break up \u201cthe monopolistic power of utilities.\u201d The proposals could end up being a threat to investor-owned utilities.<\/p>\n<p>Truly taking on PG&amp;E, however, may be more politically challenging than Steyer\u2019s ads may make it out to be.<\/p>\n<p>Even state Democrats effectively derailed legislation last week that would have helped cities move away from PG&amp;E toward publicly owned utilities.<\/p>\n<p>The ads ran by the anti-Steyer PACs haven\u2019t made much mention of Steyer\u2019s utility plans. Instead, they criticize other issues such as proposed tax increases.<\/p>\n<p>The utility company in response to Steyer\u2019s utility proposals said it is already delivering energy \u201cat lowest possible cost\u201d and pointed to a $12 drop in typical residential monthly bills over the last two years, PG&amp;E told SFGate.<\/p>\n<p>Steyer remains one of the leading Democrats in the governor\u2019s race thanks in part to more than $100 million of his own money he\u2019s poured into his campaign. <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!-- \u603b\u5bb9\u5668\uff1a\u6700\u5927\u5bbd908px Grid\u7d27\u51d1\u5e03\u5c40 -->\r\n<div style=\"display: grid;
