And the hope here is that with this broad effort to defend the SPLC, that will not happen,\u201d said Vanita Gupta, a former associate attorney general of the Justice Department during the Biden administration, who led one of the calls that convened activists.<\/p>\n<p>Without addressing the indictment, a coalition of more than 100 activist groups on Tuesday published a letter vowing solidarity with groups that are \u201cunjustly targeted\u201d by the federal government.
