The goal was to raise family income to 200% of the federal poverty level.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><button class=\"button button--modal-trigger\" aria-label=\"Open guaranteed income experiments, the \u201csurvival mode\u201d trap.<\/p>\n<p>Participants reported that while the cash helped cover predictable expenses and pay down debt, it did not provide a cushion for the \u201cunexpected.\u201d Researchers noted that car repairs, medical bills or a sudden loss of employment quickly wiped out any progress made through the monthly stipends.<\/p>\n<p>One participant told researchers that, without the program, the participant would likely be \u201cout there looking for places to sleep.\u201d However, the study concludes that, despite these \u201clived experience\u201d successes in preventing homelessness, a clear path to total financial self-sufficiency remained elusive for most.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the lack of long-term financial independence cited in the Yolo County study, advocates continue to push for the expansion of such programs. Similar pilots have\u00a0popped up across the country, with Cook County, Illinois, recently turning its pilot into the nation\u2019s first permanent guaranteed income program.<\/p>\n<p>Critics, however, argue that these programs create a \u201cfiscal cliff\u201d by which recipients struggle even more once the temporary government funding expires.<\/p>\n<p>Yolo County officials did not respond to\u00a0Fox News\u00a0Digital\u2019s\u00a0request for comment.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!-- \u603b\u5bb9\u5668\uff1a\u6700\u5927\u5bbd908px Grid\u7d27\u51d1\u5e03\u5c40 -->\r\n<div style=\"display: grid;
