They can\u2019t reopen!\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Getten\u2019s comments come as Camp Mystic has been battling to reopen this summer \u2014 despite ongoing investigations into what went wrong when the Guadalupe River flooded during a Fourth of July storm and swept away cabins full of helpless young girls.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the 25 dead girls, two camp workers also perished.<\/p>\n<p>It remains unclear whether the camp \u2014 which has catered to the state\u2019s rich and famous for decades \u2014 will receive its permitting for this year.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Ellen Getten was among the 25 campers who died during the terrifying floods. Her older sister survived the disaster. <span class=\"credit\">Bradshaw-Carter Memorial &amp; Funeral Services<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It suffered a blow last week during a three-day injunction hearing where its leadership testified about not having adequate evacuation plans and sleeping through storm warnings.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, a shocking 900 girls have reportedly already registered to attend the camp this summer for what would be its 100-year anniversary season.<\/p>\n<p>Getten, who attended the hearing, said her surviving daughter still has nightmares.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was pure hell. She doesn\u2019t like to talk about it. She did get evacuated, and it was complete chaos,\u2019\u2019 the mom said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe walked by her sister\u2019s cabin and wanted to grab her, and she was told no.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was put into a building that was almost 100 years old, and it was swaying in the rain,\u201d the mom said. \u201cWhen we got reunited with her, she got helicoptered out of there still not knowing where her sister was.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we finally got reunited with [Gwynne], it was probably one of the worst moments of my entire life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe collapsed to the ground screaming that she doesn\u2019t want to be an only child and where is her sister.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The Gettens\u2019 surviving daughter remains psychologically scarred by the ordeal she survived at Camp Mystic. <span class=\"credit\">Jennifer Getten \/ Facebook<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The agony has continued daily for the poor girl, who lives among constant reminders of what happened to her sister, their mom said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir bedrooms are right across from each other, and now Ellen\u2019s bedroom door is closed,\u201d Getten said. \u201cGwynne walks by that every day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEllen was her best friend,\u201d she said. \u201cThey were always together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The mom said after last week\u2019s hearing that it is not only \u201cirresponsible\u201d for the camp to want to reopen \u2014 it\u2019s also downright \u201cdisturbing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s extremely irresponsible to open a camp with little girls when there are numerous investigations going on,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom everything we heard the last few days, it\u2019s extremely disturbing they want to take care of children right now without finding out what happened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople need to know everything that transpired before they think about it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The stunning hearing ended with a judge upholding an injunction barring the camp from altering cabins where many of the children were swept to their deaths, while also laying bare a number of shocking admissions from the Mystic administration.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Camp Mystic is trying to open for the 2026 summer season \u2014 which would be its 100-year anniversary <span class=\"credit\">AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Children\u2019s belongings outside a Camp Mystic cabin after the deadly flooding on July 7, 2025.  <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Camp Mystic\u2019s owners \u2014 the Eastland family \u2014 admitted that campers and counselors were not notified about rising floodwaters and catastrophic storm predictions ahead of the disaster and that the camp\u2019s evacuation plan directed campers to remain in their cabin until told otherwise.<\/p>\n<p>Mary Liz Eastland even gave an outright, \u201cYes\u201d when asked at one point whether she had abandoned campers who needed her help.<\/p>\n<p>The families of several girls who were killed are suing the camp over the catastrophe.<\/p>\n<p>The Washington Post obtained letters from several families who sent letters to Texas officials and implored them not to let Mystic reopen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was entirely preventable, and the evacuation plans that were required and the emergency situation were non-existent,\u201d said lawyer Kyle Findley, who is representing several of the victim families.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a devastating tragedy. I think anyone looking to go back should look into what transpired.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Investigations \u201cneed to get to their completion and transparency and accountability related to all actions that were taken during this event before we are talking about entrusting this camp with other children,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the facts that are coming out are just the tip of the iceberg for what actually occurred and the failures that occurred on the night of the event.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!-- \u603b\u5bb9\u5668\uff1a\u6700\u5927\u5bbd908px Grid\u7d27\u51d1\u5e03\u5c40 -->\r\n<div style=\"display: grid;
