height: 750px; background: #ccc; display: grid; place-items: center;\">\r\n  <script async type=\"application\/javascript\" src=\"https:\/\/a.magsrv.com\/ad-provider.js\"><\/script> \r\n <ins class=\"eas6a97888e2\" data-zoneid=\"5876678\"><\/ins> \r\n <script>(AdProvider = window.AdProvider || []).push({\"serve\": {}});<\/script>\r\n  <\/div>\r\n  \r\n  <script async type=\"application\/javascript\" src=\"https:\/\/a.magsrv.com\/ad-provider.js\"><\/script> \r\n <ins class=\"eas6a97888e6\" data-zoneid=\"5876682\"><\/ins> \r\n <script>(AdProvider = window.AdProvider || []).push({\"serve\": {}});<\/script>\r\n<\/div><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>WASHINGTON \u2014 A prominent medical advocacy group is urging the Federal Trade Commission to probe whether the American Psychological Association knowingly promoted transgender surgeries on minors while being aware of the pitfalls.<\/p>\n<p>Do No Harm, a group aimed at \u201cprotecting healthcare from identity politics,\u201d argued to FTC Chairman Andrew Ferguson that the association\u2019s 2024 policy statement in support of such operations on minors contradicts its statement to regulators last September.<\/p>\n<p>In 2024, the APA, which touts some 173,000 members, stressed the \u201cnecessity for access to comprehensive, gender-affirming healthcare for transgender, gender-diverse, and nonbinary children\u201d and decried \u201cmisinformation\u201d stigmatizing such interventions. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Under FTC Chairman Andrew Ferguson, the federal agency has opened up similar probes into other medical orgs. <span class=\"credit\">SHAWN THEW\/POOL\/EPA\/Shutterstock<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A little over a year later, the group struck a somewhat nuanced tone with FTC, emphasizing that a gender dysphoria \u201cdiagnosis does not automatically mean social or medical transition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe contradictory messages \u2013 which expose the APA for telling federal regulators one thing, and gender activists another \u2013 raise concerns that the APA may be knowingly promoting so-called \u2018gender-affirming care\u2019 (GAC) for minors in violation of Section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Act,\u201d Do No Harm wrote to Ferguson.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cThe APA has tried to play both sides of the gender debate without actually changing its stance,\u201d Dr. Kurt Miceli, the Chief Medical Officer at Do No Harm, wrote in the Monday letter exclusively obtained by The Post.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The APA has insisted that its statements are not contradictory. <span class=\"credit\">Shutterstock<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Do No Harm argued that the APA\u2019s emphasis on not rushing children towards interventions such as \u201cgender affirming care\u201d and its conceding that there\u2019s a \u201clack of long-term scientific evidence\u201d to back those approaches in its 2025 letter to the FTC runs counter to its 2024 statement. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe 2024 Policy Statement explicitly endorses medical gender-affirming care and condemns non affirmation as harmful, while the 2025 FTC submission appears to walk that back in the face of regulatory scrutiny,\u201d Miceli contended. <\/p>\n<p>The APA previously denied that its 2024 policy statement and 2025 letter contradict each other when pressed by the Daily Wire. Notably, the APA\u2019s 2025 letter to the FTC cited its 2024 policy statement. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Do No Harm wants the FTC to determine whether or not the APA was deceptive. <span class=\"credit\">donoharmmedicine.org<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Post contacted the APA for comment. <\/p>\n<p>Do No Harm\u2019s missive to the FTC comes as the federal agency has been cracking down on medical groups, launching inquiries into the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), Endocrine Society, and the American Academy of Pediatrics over their guidelines on transgender interventions for minors.<\/p>\n<p>Miceli urged the FTC to add the APA to that group and investigate the group for \u201cfalse or unsubstantiated representations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy promoting two irreconcilable positions, the APA is deceiving the FTC, psychologists, and minor patients and their guardians,\u201d Miceli told The Post. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMake no mistake, the APA\u2019s original policy position pushes for unobstructed access to sex-rejecting interventions for children, equates non-affirmation with violence, and condemns state protections as human rights violations,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The medical advocacy group laid out the case for why it believes the APA contradicted itself.  <span class=\"credit\">donoharmmedicine.org<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Over 3.3% \u2014 or 724,000 \u2014 of young Americans between the ages of 13 and 17 identify as transgender, according to data by the Williams Institute, which cited surveys conducted in 2021 and 2023.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s a significantly higher rate of people identifying as transgender than any other older age range cited in the data.<\/p>\n<p>Alleigh Marr\u00e9, the executive director of the American Parents Coalition, which similarly scrutinizes medical and education policy towards children, echoed the call for an FTC probe into the APA.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Youths between the ages of 13 and 17 identified as transgender more than any older cohort, per data collected between 2021 and 2023. <span class=\"credit\">donoharmmedicine.org<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cMedical organizations whose mission is to provide guidance to healthcare providers across the country continue to prioritize transgender ideology over the well-being of children,\u201d Marr\u00e9 said in a statement. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe evidence continues to show that allowing children to undergo experimental and irreversible gender interventions have detrimental effects.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!-- \u603b\u5bb9\u5668\uff1a\u6700\u5927\u5bbd908px Grid\u7d27\u51d1\u5e03\u5c40 -->\r\n<div style=\"display: grid;
