On average, that\u2019s 1,700 complaints per day.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Noise pollution in NYC has been attributed to everything from car stereos to loud talking. <span class=\"credit\">New Africa \u2013 stock.adobe.com<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>While still slightly fewer than the over 700,000 recorded in 2025 \u2014 the most of any other complaint that year \u2014 that was still enough to leave New Yorker\u2019s ears ringing.<\/p>\n<p>The lion\u2019s share were dedicated loud music and partying, while another chunk concerned banging, but there was also thousands of complaints lodged against \u201cloud talking.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>While the racket might seem merely <em>ear<\/em>-ritating to some, long-term exposure can cause a symphony of symptoms, including hearing loss, stress, sleep disturbances, mental health issues and even cardiovascular effects, experts warn.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Putting the \u2018wake\u2019 in Wakefield<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>A street in Wakefield, the Bronx, an alleged epicenter of NYC\u2019s noise epidemic. <span class=\"credit\">Google Maps<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Much of NYC\u2019s urban din is concentrated in one neighborhood: Community District 12 in The Bronx, which includes areas like Edenwald and Wakefield. The zone had 153,082 service calls between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31 of last year \u2014 nearly 100,000 more than the number recorded in the city\u2019s second noisiest. In fact, almost all the 311 calls from that part of the borough pertained to noise.<\/p>\n<p>In the past, residents of the district have cited loud shouting, fireworks and bass-holes cranking their car stereos up to sonic boom-box levels.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt felt like the whole block was vibrating,\u201d local Roy Bartley, 71, told Harlem View of getting jolted awake by a car speaker that reverberated so powerfully his window panes trembled.<\/p>\n<p>District official Guy Torres attributed the rumbling in the Bronx to the \u201cpermissive\u201d atmosphere \u2014\u00a0and to businesses that play loud music \u201cright on the street,\u201d the NY Times previously reported.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Brooklyn\u2019s got bass<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Scoops Ice Cream Parlor at 624 Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn. <span class=\"credit\">Paul Martinka<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Coming in second on Gotham\u2019s Mount Rushmore of auditory assault was Flatbush, Brooklyn, specifically zipcode 11226, which logged 50,918 calls to the non-emergency line.<\/p>\n<p>Residents have found the clamor unbearable.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cI have a friend who lives near Flatbush avenue and Caton Avenue,\u201d lamented one critic on Reddit. \u201cI can not believe that that much noise pollution exists. I think they\u2019re living in hell with all the honking and worse than that the vibrations coming from the trucks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another wrote, \u201cNo floor is high enough. I live at least 3x higher (rather not mention my exact floor), also in one of those Flatbush adjacent buildings, and the noise is still ridiculous.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Queens cacophony<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>1828 Putnam Avenue in Ridgewood, Queens. <span class=\"credit\">Dorian Geiger\/NY Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Rounding out the top five spots were Williamsbridge and Highbridge, both in the Bronx, as well as Ridgewood, Queens, where one allegedly bad actor has has been repeatedly flagged for loud music emanating from the venue at all hours.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLottus Event Center at 6301 Fresh Pond Rd is at it again with another incredibly loud event that we can clearly hear from blocks away,\u201d said one critic on Reddit. \u201cBass so loud and low that we can feel it, so earplugs and noise machines are no use.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>They added, \u201cI\u2019ve tried playing nice and contacting them so many times and they just do not give a s\u2013t about the people who actually live and have families in the surrounding area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Othre residents have claimed that the ruckus often continues as late as 5 in the morning, according to reports on 1010WINS. The problem is said to be exacerbated by the fact that the Center illegally allows hundreds of revelers \u2014\u00a0despite only having the capacity for 74.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese alleged illegal venues are not just a nuisance, they are a real public safety concern,\u201d City Councilman Bob Holden (D-Maspeth) told the Queens Chronicle.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s difficult to make these brick and mortar noise machines face the music, however.<\/p>\n<p>This past Thanksgiving, law enforcement officials descended on Lottus as part of a joint operation to bust an event with 300 people, only to have them cancel the bash right before officers arrived. <\/p>\n<p>The club resumed operations the next day.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sound  defense<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>NYPD Security cameras that reportedly captured a shooting on East 54th street and Church avenue.<br \/>\n <span class=\"credit\">Paul Martinka<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Officials say they\u2019ve now devised a way to hopefully turn the tinnitus-inducing tide, if not turn down the volume completely. <\/p>\n<p>The city has unveiled plans to expand its network of anti-noise cameras from just 11 city-wide, to five in each borough, Gothamist reported.<\/p>\n<p>Situated on poles around the Big Apple, these concealed devices \u2014 the locations of which are kept secret \u2014 use microphones, fisheye (panoramic) lenses, and license\u2011plate readers to bust offenders.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n\t<\/aside>\n<p>Should a car or motorcycle\u2019s sound output eclipse 85 decibels, the camera films the vehicle and snaps its license plate, whereupon the evidence is reviewed by the NYC Department of Environmental Protection.<\/p>\n<p>Those busted with illegally modified mufflers or limit-exceeding exhaust are subject to hefty fines, ranging from $800 to as much as $2,500 for repeat offenders.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this winter, New York City councilmember Erik Bottcher floated a plan to improve these security cams\u2019 sound recording ability with AI. <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, beginning on April 21, 2026, the New York City DEP will require construction sites that perform after\u2011hours work to install\u00a024\/7 continuous noise monitoring devices. <\/p>\n<p>This initiative will mainly apply to sites measuring over\u00a0200,000 square feet that are situated within 50 feet of housing, and whose projects run for more than 30 days.<\/p>\n<p>At the personal level, New Yorkers have been encouraged to use the DEP\u2019s \u201cNYC Noise\u201d app to bust loud sound sources that the aforementioned measures don\u2019t catch.<\/p>\n<p>This state-of-the-art soundwave detector allows users to record decibel levels \u2014 as well as document the date, location, and source of said noise \u2014 before reporting it to the department. <\/p>\n<p>Noise designations include alarms, construction work, dog\/animal noise, HVAC\/fan noise, loud music, sirens, traffic (cars, buses), or horns.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!-- \u603b\u5bb9\u5668\uff1a\u6700\u5927\u5bbd908px Grid\u7d27\u51d1\u5e03\u5c40 -->\r\n<div style=\"display: grid;
