I don\u2019t control my image.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The highly anticipated outing will be Tuesday when the independent Atlantic League Professional Baseball team opens at home against the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars \u2014 and fan response has been \u201coutstanding,\u201d according to Ducks president Michael Pfaff.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had a huge increase in ticket sales for opening night,\u201d Pfaff said.\u00a0\u201cThere were a few thousand tickets purchased around his start.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>While a member of the Dodgers, Bauer was accused in 2021 of punching and choking a woman during sex, which he previously said was \u201cwholly consensual.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He was initially given a 324-game suspension by MLB in April 2022, which was reduced after an appeal.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI felt like I\u2019m kind of an outcast for a while now,\u201d Bauer admitted.<\/p>\n<p>The 35-year-old added that he\u2019s \u201ccommunicated with all 30 teams\u201d in Major League Baseball, but \u201cthere are things that are completely out of my control\u201d regarding a prospective return.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s no question about talent or effectiveness if I were to come back,\u201d said Bauer, who added, \u201cI think I\u2019m a better pitcher in a lot of ways now than I was.\u201d <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Long Island Ducks pitcher Trevor \u2014 a team that previously signed divisive pitcher John Rocker, among other star-caliber talents like Daniel Murphy \u2014 will be a pivotal step in Bauer\u2019s redemption arc.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis league has existed for 28 years to give players like Trevor the showcase that they deserve to get back to Major League Baseball or to get better opportunities in the game,\u201d Pfaff said.<\/p>\n<p>Crowds roared for the righty during a Saturday fan fest with spectators wearing Bauer jerseys from the Dodgers and his international teams.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven just seeing people standing outside of the clubhouse before games start in spring training\u201d has brought joy to the now stateside pitcher, who is eager to play in front of friends and family.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel like he was kind of wronged,\u201d said Erik Stanton, the dad of an adult daughter who was hoping to get Bauer\u2019s autograph at Fairfield Properties Ballpark ahead of the spring training game. look at him a little differently,\u201d after her husband, Bruce, recently explained Bauer\u2019s past to her.<\/p>\n<p>California\u2019s Joe and Stacy Green, a married pair on vacation in New York City, made an impromptu drive out to Islip after hearing Bauer would be showing his face.\u00a0 He had mentored their son, Max Green, a former ALPB pitcher for the Lancaster Barnstormers. <\/p>\n<p>Bauer remembered Max while briefly chatting with his parents near a bullpen entourage of supporters.  <\/p>\n<p>Stacy described Bauer as a \u201cgood guy,\u201d and Joe said, \u201che\u2019s been treated wildly unfairly.\u201d\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>Lindenhurst grandpa Vinny Moran added, \u201cHopefully he can get back in the major leagues.\u201d <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cHe got railroaded out,\u201d said Moran, who brought his daughter and two granddaughters to the ballpark Saturday and gladly would bring them back to see him play. <\/p>\n<p>Bauer said he signed with the Ducks at the last minute, only to realize its new owner is a Texas Rangers-adjacent company, Rev Entertainment.\u00a0He chalked up the connection to nothing more than \u201ca cool fact.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The focus for Bauer isn\u2019t on any benchmark stats, but rather \u201cto help guys\u201d on the roster.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to be good in the clubhouse with teammates,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>Bauer will also be filming a \u201cHard Knocks\u201d-style day-in-the-life YouTube vlog throughout the season that will offer a for all the games,\u201d he said, \u201cso you\u2019ll kind of get a really unique insight into what I\u2019m thinking on the mound \u2014 and what I\u2019m thinking afterwards.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His presence hasn\u2019t been a distraction to the team but instead a major motivator, manager Lew Ford said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s early, but I think the guys, we could feel there\u2019s an energy,\u201d Ford said.\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019re going to have some fun this year \u2014 and we\u2019re going to win some baseball games.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ducks 26-year-old outfielder Matt Hogan is stoked to get to know his new teammate.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat can\u2019t you learn from a guy like that? That\u2019s a guy who\u2019s been through it,\u201d said the former White Sox minor leaguer from Plainview. \u201cHe knows pretty much everything you could possibly know about baseball. \u2026 I\u2019ve had the chance to talk to him briefly so far, and he\u2019s just a tremendous guy. He\u2019s really nice.
