In fact, we tend to shy away from it,\u201d Chris Ostroushko told podcast host Brian Shapiro in\u00a0his first interview\u00a0since the viral incident.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn fact, that day, you\u2019ll see I was not even up in the front at all during this whole event. I just stayed back and kind of watched what was going on,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Ostroushko, his wife DeYanna and daughter Paige were seen on camera in an altercation with TPUSA reporter Savanah Hernandez outside the Whipple building in Minnesota on April 11.<\/p>\n<p>Hernandez was\u00a0covering the protest for\u00a0\u201cf\u2014 ICE day\u201d when she says demonstrators surrounded her after realizing she was affiliated with Turning Point USA, the conservative organization founded by Charlie Kirk.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Chris Ostroushko and his wife DeYanna told podcast host Brian Shapiro that his family \u201care absolutely not violent people.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">Pushing The Limits\/YouTube<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In an interview with Fox News Digital on Thursday, Hernandez strongly disputed the family\u2019s account and said the Ostroushkos were the aggressors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would just say if I hit them first, it would be on camera,\u201d Hernandez said. \u201cThere\u2019s multiple angles of Paige walking up to me as I\u2019m standing by myself. And also her mom is the first person who came up to start harassing me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hernandez said DeYanna Ostroushko was \u201cpressing her body up against me and shoving me multiple times,\u201d while \u201cher husband then shoved me from behind and started screaming in my ear.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Turning Point USA reporter Savanah Hernandez was assaulted by Ostroushko at an anti-ICE rally in Minnesota. <span class=\"credit\">oskarquentinmusic\/instagram<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>She said that happened before \u201cChris Ostroushko then instructed his daughter on camera to go and \u2018blow the whistle in my effing ear.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt no point was I walking up to these people,\u201d Hernandez said. \u201cAll three of them walked up to me. The mother and father shoved me first and then instructed their daughter to come assault me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hernandez also rejected the claim that she hit Paige first. She said that after Paige moved within inches of her ear and blew a whistle, she only raised her hand to create space and tried to walk away, but she says the Ostroushkos \u201crefused to leave me alone.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>DeYanna Ostroushko claimed to Shapiro that it was Hernandez who instigated the clash. <span class=\"credit\">Pushing The Limits\/YouTube<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cEvery single time they attacked me was while I was trying to leave,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>DeYanna Ostroushko, however, told Shapiro that Hernandez instigated the clash and that the family was defending itself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wasn\u2019t violent at all. I was trying to protect my daughter while at the same time trying to de-escalate the situation,\u201d DeYanna said. \u201cWhen I was assaulted, that\u2019s when my husband said, \u2018That\u2019s enough, don\u2019t eff with my family.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The journo was punched and tossed to the ground during one scuffle. <span class=\"credit\">oskarquentinmusic\/instagram<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>DeYanna claimed Hernandez \u201cbackhanded\u201d Paige before Chris pushed her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo after that happened, she started to move out of that area \u2026 Paige was moving out with her, and she had punched Paige again, so that was a second assault, and then Paige pushed her to defend herself, and then I yelled at Paige and I said, \u2018Paige, get back here.\u2019 <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd she said, \u2018Mom, she punched me.\u2019 And that\u2019s when I said, \u2018Don\u2019t effing touch my daughter,\u2019 and that\u2019s when she grabbed me by the throat,\u201d DeYanna said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Hernandez tried to continue her reporting but protesters, including one blowing a whistle in her ear, disrupted her. <span class=\"credit\">oskarquentinmusic\/instagram<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Trisha Pohland, one of the family\u2019s attorneys, backed that version on the podcast.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBased off what I\u2019ve seen, she went and hit Paige in the face when Paige was blowing a whistle \u2026 which she has every right to do and Savanah was the one that hit her,\u201d Pohland said.<\/p>\n<p>Hernandez said she later sought medical treatment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, I went and I\u00a0sought medical attention\u00a0and they did tell me that I do have a concussion and multiple sprains,\u201d she told Fox News Digital.<\/p>\n<p>Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon and Vice President\u00a0JD Vance\u00a0have also confirmed that the FBI has opened an investigation into the assault on Hernandez.<\/p>\n<p>The Hennepin County Sheriff\u2019s Office told Fox News Digital that the case remains under investigation and that it recommended charges Monday against Paige Marie Ostroushko, Lorenzo Amadeo Garcia and Christopher Ostroushko in connection with the assault of a journalist.<\/p>\n<p>The Hennepin County Attorney\u2019s Office told Fox News Digital it had received three case submissions Monday and that they are \u201ccurrently under review for\u00a0potential charging.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>James Cook, one of the Ostroushkos\u2019 attorneys, told Fox News Digital that no charges had yet been filed against Chris and that he would not plead guilty.<\/p>\n<p>Hernandez said she had not yet heard directly from county prosecutors, but said the sheriff\u2019s office told her it \u201cdid not feel like they had sufficient evidence to charge Deanna and [was] not recommending charges against her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Ostroushko family says they have been doxed since the incident went viral and have lost jobs, despite not being arrested at the time of Shapiro\u2019s interview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re getting death threats, they\u2019re threatening to rape my wife, threatening to rape Paige,\u201d Chris said. \u201cThey\u2019re threatening to come to our house and burn our house down\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that he wished no ill will toward Hernandez.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou could say \u2018This was bad.\u2019 Some people could say, \u2018This isn\u2019t bad.\u2019 Either way, it doesn\u2019t give people the right to destroy people\u2019s lives.
