Scot Williams, told The Post in an exclusive interview that investigators worked diligently for months to build their case.<\/p>\n<p>The source of the odor turned out to be the decomposing, and dismembered body of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Rivas\u2019 dismembered body was discovered in the trunk of a Tesla that had been impounded. <span class=\"credit\">KTLA<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cShe had been dead for a long time before that, and so we were behind the eight-ball from the beginning,\u201d Cpt. Scot Williams, told The Post in an exclusive interview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had to backtrack through the evidence to make a determination as to when she died and then work our way forward from there.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Investigators then worked diligently for months to build their case.<\/p>\n<p>The singer\u2019s attorneys, Blair Berk, Marilyn Bednarski and Regina Peter also spoke out following the arrest.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>D4vd was arrested at a home in the Hollywood Hills Thursday. <span class=\"credit\">Carlin Stiehl for CA Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Cops descended on a Hollywood Hills home where the singer was staying to make the arrest. <span class=\"credit\">Carlin Stiehl for CA Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cLet us be clear \u2014 the actual evidence in this case will show that David Burke did not murder Celeste Rivas Hernandez and he was not the cause of her death. There has been no indictment returned by any grand jury in this case and no criminal complaint filed. David has only been detained under suspicion. We will vigorously defend David\u2019s innocence,\u201d they said in a joint statement.<\/p>\n<p>Rivas had previously been reported missing\u00a0by her family in April.<\/p>\n<p>Her body was decomposed and wrapped in plastic, so it took the medical examiner extra time to determine that she was the victim of a homicide, said Williams.<\/p>\n<p>While that was happening, said Williams, officers easily traced the car to Burke, since it was registered to the pop star.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>D4vd with Rivas.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Burke was in the\u00a0midst of a world tour that would bring him to Los Angeles for a sold-out show at the Grammy Museum, but the alt R&amp;B star canceled the remainder of his shows amid the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>From the beginning, Burke cooperated with authorities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were plenty ways that we were able to connect her to him fairly early in the investigation,\u201d said Williams. But the suspicion of foul play is not good enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Here\u2019s the latest on the death of the teen girl found in rapper D4vd\u2019s Tesla<\/h2>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<p>Cops began talking to witnesses, collecting physical evidence and building their case against Burke.<\/p>\n<p>As the case progressed, disturbing details came to light. <\/p>\n<p>A \u201cburn cage\u201d incinerator that is advertised to burn at 1,600 degrees was discovered at the Hollywood Hill mansion that singer D4vd was renting at the time the body of a teen girl was found in the trunk of his Tesla, according to a private detective hired by the property\u2019s owner.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators kept tabs on the whereabout of the pop star, even tracing his whereabouts to Texas when he visited his family there during the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Once cops developed probable cause to make an arrest, they collared Burke within days.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators believe he acted alone.
