Bar, a staple in a declining downtown Santa Monica, will shutter this weekend.  <span class=\"credit\">Instagram\/@themisfitsamo<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After cycling through five different building owners \u2014\u00a0each less invested than the last, the restaurant said \u2014 the legacy it had worked hard to build with loyal customers was slowly eroded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnother restaurant is going down in Santa Monica,\u201d Derrick Townsend, a Santa Monica City Council Candidate, posted on X.\u00a0\u201cI\u2019ve lost count of how many this will be for 2026.\u201d <\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>The Promenade\u2019s vacancy rate has been reported at around 25%, although locals who spoke to The Post previously felt that number was closer to 50%.<\/p>\n<p>The Misfit\u2019s closure adds to a growing list of disappointments in the area, where vacant storefronts, rising costs and post-pandemic shifts have hollowed out what was once one of the LA area\u2019s most popular shopping and dining corridors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince its doors opened in 2011, The Misfit has been one of the busiest and local cornerstones near the 3rd Street Promenade,\u201d the eatery posted on their Instagram.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The softly-lit gastropub inside the city\u2019s historic Clock Tower building was a favorite with locals. <span class=\"credit\">Instagram\/@themisfitsamo<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>After cycling through five different building owners \u2014\u00a0each less invested than the last, the restaurant said \u2014 the legacy it had worked hard to build with loyal customers was slowly eroded. <span class=\"credit\">Instagram\/@themisfitsamo<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n\t<\/aside>\n<p>Unlike trend-driven pop-ups, The Misfit was a reliable go-to for a decade and a half. An Art Deco-inspired dining room and a popular happy hour ensured it remained a bright spot in a faltering neighborhood.  <\/p>\n<p>Online, fans are already mourning the loss.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCrying since once of my favorite spots is closing down,\u201d a devastated fan posted on Instagram, who went to The Misfit last night for one last hurrah. \u201cI\u2019ll never forget all the memories I have here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are CRUSHED,\u201d another longtime patron posted. \u201cBeen coming here since 2013!!! So much history!!.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHope you guys know that locals are MAD about this,\u201d a user commented on The Misfit\u2019s post announcing the news. <\/p>\n<p>The group says it\u2019s scouting a new location to revive the concept elsewhere\u2014but old timers, that\u2019s beside the point. <\/p>\n<p>The Misfit isn\u2019t just another restaurant closing; it\u2019s a bellwether for the collapse of the Downtown Santa Monica area, increasingly defined by retail vacancies and an out-of-control homeless population.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hate this so much,\u201d a saddened Redditor posted online. \u201cMy fave bar in Santa Monica.
