I think he\u2019s probably learned that from this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump was also asked if he planned to call Leo, the leader of the world\u2019s 1.4 billion Catholics, amid the ongoing spat, to which he replied, \u201cno.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>President Trump, pictured speaking with the King of the Netherlands, has refused to back down amid his war of words with Pope Leo XIV. <span class=\"credit\">Bloomberg via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The president said he wasn\u2019t sure if the Pope would visit Washington during his time in office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have no idea,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s up to him, not me.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>During the interview, Trump explained why he deleted an AI-generated image that appeared to depict him as Jesus, saying it caused confusion. <\/p>\n<p>Trump has previously accused the pontiff of being \u201cweak on crime\u201d and \u201cterrible for foreign policy,\u201d and doubled down on the claims earlier Monday.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Trump explained why he deleted an AI-generated post that depicted him as Jesus.  <span class=\"credit\">REUTERS<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cHe was very much against what I\u2019m doing with regard to Iran, and you cannot have a nuclear Iran. Pope Leo would not be happy with the end result,\u201d Trump told reporters as he refused to apologize.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Leo said he\u2019s not afraid of the US administration, revealing he doesn\u2019t want to get into a debate with Trump as he continues his crusade for peace over conflict.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not afraid of the Trump administration or of speaking out loudly about the message of the Gospel, which is what the Church works for,\u201d he told reporters on board the papal plane en-route to Algiers, Algeria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will continue to speak out strongly against war, seeking to promote peace, promoting dialogue and multilateralism among states to find solutions to problems.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are not politicians, we don\u2019t deal with foreign policy with the same perspective he might understand it, but I do believe in the message of the Gospel, as a peacemaker.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Pope Leo says he\u2019s not afraid of the Trump administration. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Trump\u2019s attacks on Leo have sparked fury among his allies in Rome.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni \u2013 the only European leader to attend Trump\u2019s second inauguration \u2013 branded the president\u2019s attacks on Leo \u201cunacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Pope is the head of the Catholic Church, and \u200bit is right and normal for him to call for peace and to condemn every form of war,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini, who has previously supported Trump, said the attacks did not \u201cseem either wise or helpful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Before his election in May 2025, Leo, previously known as Robert Francis Prevost, amplified criticism of the Administration\u2019s policies, which included re-sharing posts made by the Catholic commentator Rocco Palmo.<\/p>\n<p>His final X post before being elected by the conclave was a retweet of Palmo\u2019s criticism of Trump\u2019s partnership with El Salvador\u2019s President Nayib Bukele on the deportation of illegal migrants.<\/p>\n<p><em>With Post wires<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!-- \u603b\u5bb9\u5668\uff1a\u6700\u5927\u5bbd908px Grid\u7d27\u51d1\u5e03\u5c40 -->\r\n<div style=\"display: grid;
