The current average is 90 minutes.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"> <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Fred Rosen is battling Metro to stop a transit plan under Bel-Air. <span class=\"credit\">Fred Rosen<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But not everyone is celebrating, especially a wealthy man behind a lawsuit hoping to stop or effectively delay the project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe myth in this city is that this is 18 minutes\u2026\u00a0 and pigs can fly.\u201d Fred Rosen, a Bel-Air resident who founded Ticketmaster, told the California Post in an exclusive interview.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The wealth enclave of Bel-Air. <span class=\"credit\">Los Angeles Times via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The hills of Bel-Air where Metro wants to build a massive tunnel. <span class=\"credit\">Los Angeles Times via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIf this was your money would you spend it like this? In 25 years Metro hasn\u2019t finished one project on time, one project on budget, and has the most cost per mile of any metro in the US,\u201d Rosen says.<\/p>\n<p>Metro estimates the long awaited train will cost $24.2 billion, but says that\u2019s in 2023 dollars on their website.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you did that in a public company you\u2019d be responsible for deceit, you might get sued by everyone\u201d says Rosen who predicts the project will cost $40 billion, based on the per mile costs of other transportation projects in the state.<\/p>\n<p>Where the money is coming from is unclear. Metro says it will build the project in phases \u201cso that segments can be built as funding becomes available\u201d the website says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMetro\u2019s whole premise is not to work with the money they have.\u201d the long time Los Angeles resident says.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Bel-Air resident and Ticketmaster founder with Jamie Lee Curtis and Nadine Schiff Rosen. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The proposed route will require building massive tunnels under the posh neighborhood of Bel-Air.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A bigger concern for Rosen, he believes the project won\u2019t be done until 2050 and points to where technology will be in 24 years with driverless cars and the arrival of Uber Copters flying over LA to get people around quickly.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will be obsolete before it\u2019s finished,\u201d says Rosen who also raises concern about the dangers of riding the city\u2019s current Metro system. \u201cHow can you guarantee the Metro is going to be safe 20 years from now when it isn\u2019t safe now.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Metro provided five plans for the long awaited project \u2013 three were heavy rail and two were monorail. The approved plan touts a single-bore tunnel, which reduces areas of surface construction, a less costly route, and that the project won\u2019t require a ventilation shaft in the Santa Monica Mountains.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The pink line shows the approved route <span class=\"credit\">Metro.net<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Los Angeles residents have been begging for a solution to the traffic problems in the Sepulveda Pass, and the corridor remains one of the last parts of LA that\u2019s not connected to the rest of Metro.<\/p>\n<p>Rosen is well aware that many may perceive him as a rich guy trying to keep a train from running under his Bel Air mansion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIts not about not wanting it in Bel Air. The fact that I live here doesn\u2019t make me wrong, I think the idea is essentially stupid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d feel the same way if this was under Cheviot Hills or Compton, you don\u2019t go under a residential community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 82-year-old adds he has the means to pick up and leave,\u00a0 \u201cI can sell my house and move,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"> <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Rosen is\u00a0putting his money where his mouth is. He\u2019s spent \u201calmost seven figures\u201d on lawsuits against boring under Bel Air, and claims he demands answers from Metro and never gets them.<\/p>\n<p>In one court filing Rosen, through the non profit Keep Bel Air Beautiful, claims one Metro Chief Planning Officer Ray Sosa consulted UCLA for years on the billion dollar project but never consulted Bel Air residents on the project.<\/p>\n<p>In a deposition Sosa said Bel-Air \u201cis a residential neighborhood, a number of homes\u201d that doesn\u2019t require \u201cthe same level of evaluation\u201d, the papers said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Rosen, who listened to the deposition live, was furious. \u201cWhat we\u2019re dealing with is one set of idiots versus another set of incompetence versus another set of morons. They don\u2019t even understand the communities they are dealing with.\u201d he told The Post<\/p>\n<p>He was accused of threatening Metro Board members with violence, something he laughs at a vehemently denies. \u201cI have never once threatened anyone physically in my life. I was out of shape when I was eight,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He says he\u2019s not done with legal filings. \u201cI can keep this in court for another 5 years,\u201d Rosen said. Metro didn\u2019t immediately respond to The Post for comment.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Rosen has also famously taken shots at LA Supervisor Lyndsey Horvath. As a member of the Metro Board of Directors representing the Third District of Los Angeles County, she\u2019s a heavy stakeholder in the project. She shared bombastic texts from him on her X account and called him the \u201cMan child of Bel Air.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Texts to Supervisor Horvath from Fred Rosen.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Rosen sent her a picture of a woman on her knees, stroking a man\u2018s leg and wrote, \u201cLooks like you at a Metro Board meeting\u2026 Sucking up to the incompetent executives of Metro is simply disgraceful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked about Horvath, Rosen doubled down. \u201cIf you want to come at me that\u2019s fine, if you don\u2019t like me that\u2019s fine but you can\u2019t lie to me. I detest her, full disclosure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rosen does offer a solution for a congested Los Angeles.\u00a0 He says the monorail made more sense because there was no digging.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Additionally he proposes that a three lane second deck be added to the 405. Two lanes for electric buses traveling to the airport and back, and one in case a bus brakes down.
