Nanovic inside her $1.7 million Minnesota mansion.<\/p>\n<p>Lieber had been drinking beer and blackberry brandy inside her Scott County home, watching TV with Nanovic and his 10-year-old son when she became agitated and grabbed a handgun on March 4, 2024, according to court records viewed by The Post.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Jennifer Lynn Lieber was sentenced to 25.5 years in prison after she was found guilty of second-degree murder. <span class=\"credit\">Scott County Sheriff\u0092s Office<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Lieber, who was then 45 years old, waved the gun around, threatening to kill herself and them, as Nanovic, his son, and Lieber\u2019s children became concerned about her mental state.<\/p>\n<p>Lieber had allowed Nanovic, her cousin, to stay in her pool house with her son while she was splitting from her husband. During his stay, the two became close and \u201cbegan a romantic relationship with one another,\u201d court documents claim.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Nanovic\u2019s son told police that Lieber called her close lover, \u201cracial slurs and hurtful things\u201d during the tirade, revealing that she had been abusive to Nanovic and compared living in the home to \u201cliving in hell,\u201d according to the arrest documents.<\/p>\n<p>Nanovic and his son managed to escape the home, fleeing to the pool house where they were staying.<\/p>\n<p>At one point, Lieber\u2019s biological children went to the detached structure, where they asked Nanovic to check on the dogs inside the home.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Lieber\u2019s mansion in Credit River, Minnesota, after the shooting death of David Nanovic on March 4, 2024. <span class=\"credit\">CBS News Minnesota<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The father-son duo attempted to return to the house but were met by Lieber, who again threatened them before firing a shot, missing everyone.<\/p>\n<p>During a second attempt to check on the home, the 45-year-old father went inside but never returned to his son.<\/p>\n<p>Lieber\u2019s sons called her soon-to-be-ex husband, Stuart Lieber, saying their mother \u201cwas not acting normal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stuart Lieber, a pilot for Delta, called 911, requesting a wellness check by police.<\/p>\n<div class=\"single__inline-module inline-module inline-module--newsletter aligncenter inline-module--nypostbusinessunit aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-newsletter\" data-source-unit=\"Inline Newsletter Module Morning Report\">\n<div class=\"inline-module__inner\">\n<div class=\"inline-module__title-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"inline-module__unsubmitted-title-wrapper\">\n<h3 class=\"inline-module__title headline headline--combo-sm-md\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tStart your day with all you need to know\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMorning Report delivers the latest news, videos, photos and more.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><h3 class=\"inline-module__title headline headline--combo-sm-md\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\tThanks for signing up!\t\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Police arrived to find Lieber outside her home, sobbing and with her hands in the air, claiming she \u201creally f\u2013cked up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Officers entered the home and found Nanovic lying unresponsive at the bottom of the basement stairs.<\/p>\n<p>He was covered in blood with a handgun next to him.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Crime scene detectives outside Lieber\u2019s home after police discovered Nanovic\u2019s bloodied body. <span class=\"credit\">CBS News Minnesota<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Lieber told police that she had kicked the gun out of Nanovic\u2019 hands during a confrontation and the weapon went off, striking Nanovic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI loved him,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Officials ruled Nanovic died from a gunshot wound to the forehead, fired at close range.<\/p>\n<p>She was convicted of second-degree murder on Jan. 30 following a two-week trial.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe successful prosecution of this case reflects the commitment of our investigators and our partnership with the Scott County Attorney\u2019s Office to seek justice for victims of violent crime,\u201d Sheriff Luke Hennen said in a statement obtained by the Prior Lake News Compass. \u201cOur thoughts remain with the family and loved ones of David Nanovic as they continue to navigate this loss.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was a tragic and preventable act of violence,\u201d Scott County Attorney Ron Hocevar added. \u201cWe are grateful for the work of law enforcement and the jury in holding the defendant accountable.
