Eric Swalwell has sent a threatening letter to individuals accusing him of \u201cnonconsensual sexual encounters\u201d \u2014 warning that he could sue for defamation over rampant online rumors about alleged inappropriate behavior with women, according to a document posted online. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe \u201cIt has come to our attention that you made false statements accusing Mr. Swalwell of sexual assault and nonconsensual sexual encounters,\u201d read the letter from attorney Elias Dabaie, which was posted on X by Democratic activist Cheyenne Hunt and confirmed by the LA Times. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"embed-wrapper twitter\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This is the first page of the  cease and desist letter from Swalwell&#8217;s team \u2013 it has has been shared with  permission from the recipient <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Bv9mtVKvPf\">pic.twitter.com\/Bv9mtVKvPf<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Cheyenne Hunt (@CheyenneHuntCA) <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CheyenneHuntCA\/status\/2042669864171741580?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 10, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cMr. Swalwell takes these allegations seriously, both because they are false and because they are being injected into the gubernatorial race only 24 days before voters go to the polls,\u201d read the letter, which was reportedly sent to at least two individuals. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Swalwell forcefully denied the rumors at a Sacramento town hall event.  <span class=\"credit\">AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The letter raised the possibility of a defamation lawsuit, writing that the recipients, who have not been identified, are \u201csubject to liability for defamation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The letter follows a tide of rumors circulated by Hunt and other Democratic activists that Swalwell sexually harassed female staffers \u2014 even allegedly forcing them to sign NDAs to muzzle them from speaking about their experiences.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Hunt posted a series of TikTok videos warning that an investigative report about the East Bay rep\u2019s alleged misconduct was about to drop.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Cheyenne Hunt, a Gen Z activist, has circulated allegations about Swalwell. <span class=\"credit\">Instagram\/@cheyenne.l.hunt<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Swalwell forcefully denied the allegations earlier this week, slamming the chatter as a \u201cfalse, outrageous rumor\u201d and denying he asked women to sign NDAs. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere has never been an allegation and there has never been a settlement,\u201d said Swalwell at a Tuesday town hall event in Sacramento. <\/p>\n<p>Asked if he\u2019d ever had a sexual relationship with a staffer or intern, Swalwell told reporters: \u201cNo, no, no, no\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The allegation against Swalwell, a leading Dem in the governor\u2019s race who\u2019s racked up endorsements from powerful unions and fellow lawmakers, sparked infighting among Democrats. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Swalwell is married to Brittany Watts and has 3 children.  <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>His rivals, including former Rep. Katie Porter and former Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, were quick to attack Swalwell after the rumors surfaced. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith regard to Congressman Swalwell, I have seen allegations coming from women staffers.\u00a0They are very, very troubling allegations,\u201d Porter told CNN this week. <\/p>\n<p>Other Dems dismissed the rumors as part of a plot to take down a leading governor candidate, suggesting that Hunt was working on behalf of a rival campaign. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Hunt pictured with former Rep.
