allegedly clipping a family\u2019s car on the highway in a hit-and-run \u2014\u00a0later claiming chest pain forced her to drive on the shoulder while speeding home.<\/p>\n<p>San Leandro\u2019s Police Chief Angela Averiett was behind the wheel of her department-issued Jeep on Interstate 580 near Dublin last year when she veered from the shoulder into a lane where a family was driving home San shotgun blast.<\/p>\n<p>Ryan told ABC 7 the silver Jeep\u2019s lights were flashing right before \u201cit smoked my mirror,\u201d clipped her driver\u2019s side and sped off without vehicle\u2019s the license plate number, which the California Highway Patrol traced back to Averiett\u2019s SUV.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>In her account to investigators, Averiett claimed she didn\u2019t realize a collision had occurred and didn\u2019t hear any impact,\u00a0even though both vehicles had matching damage.<\/p>\n<p>The CHP, citing the chief\u2019s claims that she wasn\u2019t aware she struck anyone, declined to pursue hit-and-run charges.<\/p>\n<div turn when Ryan said a San Leandro Police lieutenant later called her to offer to pay for her car\u2019s damages if she didn\u2019t report the incident.<\/p>\n<p>Antwinette Turner, now a deputy chief with Bay Area Rapid Transit, was the officer who reportedly attempted to negotiate for her chief.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>A is part of a wider internal complaint filed last month by San Leandro Police Department Sgt. Mike Olivera.<\/p>\n<p>The nine\u2011page document accuses Averiett of a \u201ctroubling pattern of lack of accountability, selective enforcement and concealment of violations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The San Leandro Police Officers\u2019 Association attorney, Mike Rains, also expressed his belief to ABC 7 that Averiett was given preferential treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Union leaders say the situation has crushed morale among rank\u2011and\u2011file officers, who believe the chief received special treatment not afforded to regular cops, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.<\/p>\n<p>Averiett, a veteran of Bay Area law enforcement since 2001 who was previously with the Hayward Police Department and BART Police, refused to answer questions when confronted by ABC 7 in the San Leandro Police Department parking lot.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async defer src=\"https:\/\/platform.instagram.com\/en_US\/embeds.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<br \/><!-- \u603b\u5bb9\u5668\uff1a\u6700\u5927\u5bbd908px Grid\u7d27\u51d1\u5e03\u5c40 -->\r\n<div style=\"display: grid;
