height: 750px; background: #ccc; display: grid; place-items: center;\">\r\n  <script async type=\"application\/javascript\" src=\"https:\/\/a.magsrv.com\/ad-provider.js\"><\/script> \r\n <ins class=\"eas6a97888e2\" data-zoneid=\"5876678\"><\/ins> \r\n <script>(AdProvider = window.AdProvider || []).push({\"serve\": {}});<\/script>\r\n  <\/div>\r\n  \r\n  <script async type=\"application\/javascript\" src=\"https:\/\/a.magsrv.com\/ad-provider.js\"><\/script> \r\n <ins class=\"eas6a97888e6\" data-zoneid=\"5876682\"><\/ins> \r\n <script>(AdProvider = window.AdProvider || []).push({\"serve\": {}});<\/script>\r\n<\/div><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The price of coffee is increasing faster than any other household grocery, and it\u2019s not just tariffs driving the surge \u2014 bad weather, war and a frenzy of market traders are also to blame for the rise.<\/p>\n<p>Coffee prices have spiked by a stunning 18.4% in the last year, according to federal data from February.<\/p>\n<p>Most other household spending items \u2014 from groceries to cars to haircuts \u2014 don\u2019t close to that increase rate, figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show.<\/p>\n<p>Those increases have affected both producers and consumers, and reflect a trend that has been running wild since the pandemic \u2014 a pound of roast coffee cost about $4.17 on average in 2020, and about $9.46 in 2026.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Coffee prices rose by over 18% in the last year \u2014 more than any other common household commodity.  <span class=\"credit\">Helayne Seidman<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A storm of factors have collided to fuel those increases, with droughts in coffee producing powerhouse countries Brazil and Vietnam around 2024 leading to crop shortages that have fueled the chaos, according to the Wall Street Journal.<\/p>\n<p>Then in July 2025 President Trump\u2019s tariff war slapped a 40% tax on products from Brazil \u2014 the world\u2019s largest coffee producer \u2014 causing further increases for importers in the US, who passed much of the costs on to consumers.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Making matters worse, according to the WSJ, hedge funds and commodities traders have been buying up coffee contracts as they made bets on the results of drought shortages and the tariff reactions.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s causing \u201croller coaster stupid\u201d prices to reign, according to Emory University professor and pricing expert Peter Roberts.<\/p>\n<p>The war in Iran has also caused another layer of uncertainty about prices as the full impacts of potential oil shortages begin to show on the global market.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Trump imposed a 40% tariff on Brazil in July, leading to huge price increases in the coffee market. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>All those twists and turns have left American coffee roasters and small coffee shops jittery.<\/p>\n<p>They report struggling to keep up with huge corporate brands that can keep ahead of costs with huge bulk orders, or by hiring employees whose entire job is finding the best prices on the market.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s too many variables for us to follow,\u201d said Kansas-based Reverie Roasters owner Andrew Gough, explaining that he\u2019s struggling to keep up with the market while managing the day-to-day of running a business.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cI\u2019ve got to fix the toilet. I\u2019ve got to do the broken doorknob,\u201d he told the Journal.<\/p>\n<p>Gough charged $15 for 12-oz of his popular coffee beans for years, but he was forced to increase the price to $17 last spring \u2014 and expects to increase it again to $18 in April.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou always worry that if you raise your prices you are going to lose a customer,\u201d Gough said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Reverie Roasters is paying about $200,000 more for its beans this year than it did last year. <span class=\"credit\">Google Maps<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But he\u2019s had little choice \u2014 last year Gough found himself paying $4.30 per pound of unroasted coffee within months of paying $2.41.<\/p>\n<p>That amounted to about $200,000 more in per year in annual operating costs. <\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s tariffs \u2014 which were struck down by the US Supreme Court in February \u2014 also ended up costing Gough more than $14,000 on their own.<\/p>\n<p>And its not just the roasters who have been hurting \u2014 businesses as small as NYC food carts have been forced to up their prices as they deal with the coffee crises.<\/p>\n<p>Aziz Changezi, an NYC coffee cart seller of 20 years, told The Post in February that his faithful 3-pound bucket of Kirkland Columbia coffee had spiked from $10 in 2020 to $22 this year \u2013 causing him to up increase prices by 50-cents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverything\u2019s more expensive,\u201d Changezi said.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!-- \u603b\u5bb9\u5668\uff1a\u6700\u5927\u5bbd908px Grid\u7d27\u51d1\u5e03\u5c40 -->\r\n<div style=\"display: grid;
