One traveler named Tim simply responded: \u201cThe politicians.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, lines at Bush snaked through check-in, baggage claim, out the doors and through underground subway tunnels. One traveler, who did not share his name, estimated that he and his family had to walk two miles to reach the back of the line. <\/p>\n<p>While many arrived several hours ahead of their scheduled departure times, those who did not could be seen frantically searching for terminals with smaller lines.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to who bears the blame, another traveler, who did not identify herself, answered: \u201cAll congressmen.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>People wait in line to pass through security at Houston\u2019s George Bush Intercontinental Airport on March 28, 2026. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cAll of them, regardless of their party,\u201d she added. \u201cThey just need to do their jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another, named Lancet, singled out the Democrats, who have demanded reinstating funding for the\u00a0Department of Homeland Security\u00a0contingent on broad reforms to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, honestly, look, the\u00a0Democrats\u00a0are not voting on the DHS being reinstated. And they\u2019re the ones who pay for TSA from what I know,\u201d said Lancet. \u201cSo, without paying the people, they obviously can\u2019t work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Houston\u2019s George Bush Intercontinental Airport has been among the airports most heavily impacted by the\u00a0partial government shutdown, which has led to TSA agents missing paychecks for more than 40 days. <\/p>\n<p>Nearly 500 TSA agents have quit, and as of Friday, the agency has missed out on $1 billion in pay.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Lines at Bush have snaked through check-in, baggage claim, out the doors and through underground subway tunnels. <span class=\"credit\">AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The partial shutdown was caused by disagreements in Congress over ICE and Border Patrol\u2019s enforcement of immigration law in cities across the US, with Democrats making funding contingent on major changes in tactics and policy. <\/p>\n<p>Late Thursday night, the Senate passed a bill to fund most of DHS, including TSA, but it is not final. The House still needs to approve the measure and send it to the president before funding resumes and workers are paid.<\/p>\n<p>President Donald Trump\u00a0signed an executive order\u00a0Friday directing federal officials to ensure TSA employees are paid, calling the ongoing shutdown an \u201cemergency,\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to pay TSA agents. <span class=\"credit\">AFP via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>One traveler named Kevin, who was waiting in a security line in an underground subway corridor with hardly functioning air conditioning, did not hold back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnybody who votes for a Democrat after this should be shipped out of the country,\u201d said Kevin. \u201cThis is a Democrat mess.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the front of the same line, which stretched halfway across the airport\u2019s subway corridor, a traveler named April answered, \u201cI have no idea to be honest with you, but also the construction doesn\u2019t help either.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving to go to Terminal A and Terminal E and going back and forth, yeah, it\u2019s not been great,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>One traveler named Maria, who despite the line bore a large smile and a chipper attitude, told Fox News Digital, \u201cYou know what? Get your Subway, get your Starbucks, and get to airports,\u201d she quipped, smiling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know, man, I don\u2019t get political about these things,\u201d answered a traveler named Pinal. \u201cIt is what it is, and we all are just going through the motions right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of people to blame,\u201d said a woman who did not identify herself. \u201cBut at least I think the important part is everybody\u2019s working together to try to be as efficient as possible. I got here at 10, and my flight is at 1:30, so I got there in enough time, hopefully.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201c<\/strong>It\u2019s just the division,\u201d remarked a young man named Nick. \u201cEverybody should be unified, working together, instead of just picking teams, fighting against each other, you know?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople rather be on a team than rather just focus on a solution,\u201d Nick continued. \u201cIf we could just focus more on the problem and working together rather than focusing on the differences, I think that would be a major change.
