That she\u2019s having this much trouble against such a little-known field bodes very, very poorly for her,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Pictured here with Gov. Gavin Newsom, Bass\u2019s declining support is tied to her handling of the 2025 Palisades Fire. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe only thing saving her at this point is that top-tier candidates who were considering running decided to stay out of the race.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bass\u2019s declining support is tied, in part, to her botched handling of the deadly 2025 Palisades Fires that killed at least 31 people and damaged or destroyed roughly 18,000 structures across the region \u2014 including the home of mayoral contender Pratt.<\/p>\n<p>Critics say City Hall was slow to respond and mishandled public communication as evacuation orders were issued. If no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote, the top two will advance to a November runoff.<\/p>\n<p>Still, history may be on Bass\u2019s side.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGenerally speaking, Angelenos tend to reelect their mayors. You have to go back more than 20 years, to 2005, to find the last mayor,\u00a0James Hahn, who was not reelected,\u201d Schnur told the network.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo voters in Los Angeles tend to be pretty forgiving, even if they\u2019re not seeing dramatic progress.
