Almost seven in 10 believe using AI will lead to quicker public services that are more responsive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat we\u2019re hearing now is a growing recognition that success depends on much more than technology,\u201d says Klubal. \u201cGovernments need governance, workforce readiness, trusted data foundations and clear guardrails if they want to move from pilots to sustainable adoption.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the governance side, 89% want a comprehensive AI policy covering both the public and private sectors. This does come with the caveat that they\u2019re concerned about Canadians\u2019 information, as 89% cite worries about the protection of personal or sensitive information while it\u2019s being handled by an AI-enabled government.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To that end, 86% worry the public will lose trust if citizens\u2019 information gets stored outside the country.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTrust remains the currency of the public sector, with strongly governed sovereign data at its core,\u201d says Ven Adamov, KPMG Canada\u2019s partner in risk services and national leader for data and analytics.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cStrong governance over AI models, their actions and the data they access is no longer optional,\u201d he says. \u201cIt is foundational to building trust and realizing AI\u2019s full benefits.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While AI enthusiasm is on the rise among public-sector employees, preparedness is a concern.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The survey found that 72% say their organization doesn\u2019t have enough specialized data and technology talent to guide ethical data use and establish governance frameworks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Respondents also report gaps in staff knowledge, with 84% saying AI literacy among public- sector employees is low, while 83% say AI fluency is low.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">KPMG defines literacy as knowing how to use AI safely and effectively, and fluency as how to think and work with AI.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To get around this, 86% of respondents call for greater investment in training and education.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adamov says leaders can support adoption by training employees and explaining how they plan to use the technology. He also advises that a clear change management plan can help staff adapt to changes in their work and see the benefits of having these tools in place.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-final-shots\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Final shots<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Canadian AI suppliers have a potential opening with public-sector buyers whose purchasing rules favour domestic firms.<\/li>\n<li>Public servants want stronger AI governance, and most say their organizations don\u2019t have enough specialists to guide ethical data use.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><!-- \u603b\u5bb9\u5668\uff1a\u6700\u5927\u5bbd908px Grid\u7d27\u51d1\u5e03\u5c40 -->\r\n<div style=\"display: grid;
