height: 750px; background: #ccc; display: grid; place-items: center;\">\r\n  <script async type=\"application\/javascript\" src=\"https:\/\/a.magsrv.com\/ad-provider.js\"><\/script> \r\n <ins class=\"eas6a97888e2\" data-zoneid=\"5876678\"><\/ins> \r\n <script>(AdProvider = window.AdProvider || []).push({\"serve\": {}});<\/script>\r\n  <\/div>\r\n  \r\n  <script async type=\"application\/javascript\" src=\"https:\/\/a.magsrv.com\/ad-provider.js\"><\/script> \r\n <ins class=\"eas6a97888e6\" data-zoneid=\"5876682\"><\/ins> \r\n <script>(AdProvider = window.AdProvider || []).push({\"serve\": {}});<\/script>\r\n<\/div><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-right:0;padding-left:0\">\n<p>A power outage at a Google Cloud data centre near London caused serious failures to services on Tuesday, leading to widespread disruptions for several UK banks.<\/p>\n<p>Google said in a service health update that most services had returned to normal by 1210 GMT, six hours after the incident began.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are seeing the recovery of services for most workloads in europe-west2,\u201d the US tech giant said, referring to its London data centre.<\/p>\n<p>Google said its cloud services suffered an outage \u201cdue to a power event\u201d, in an incident that began at 0608 GMT.<\/p>\n<p>Services for the digital bank Revolut, including withdrawals from ATMs, bank transfers and bank card top-ups, were disrupted, which a source close to the matter attributed to the Google Cloud failures.<\/p>\n<p>UK lenders Lloyds and HSBC confirmed that customers faced issues with their banking services.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe understand the root issues have been resolved, so we expect all our services to be back to normal soon,\u201d Lloyds said in a statement on Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Internet service tracker Downdetector indicated that hundreds of reports had been made of problems affecting business in the UK, including the property website Rightmove, delivery service DPD and the Royal Mail postal service.<\/p>\n<p>HSBC said its customers experienced \u201cdifficulties accessing our services\u201d, adding that it would \u201cmonitor the situation, which is also affecting other organisations\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>A Revolut spokesperson said the bank was \u201cworking to fix the issue since it was identified\u201d and offered its apologies \u201cto anyone affected and for any inconvenience caused\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can confirm that all our customers\u2019 money and data are safe,\u201d the spokesperson added in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Reliance on hyperscalers \u2013<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Google said it would publish a full incident report in the coming days.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The outage has renewed concerns over the global reliance on cloud providers, which offer businesses on-demand IT resources without heavy investment in expensive server farms.<\/p>\n<p>Local providers have seen their share of the market shrink in recent years and been captured by foreign giants known as \u201chyperscalers\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>A global outage at Amazon\u2019s cloud services last year disrupted many online services for video games, business and transport firms and made part of the internet inaccessible for several hours.<\/p>\n<p>Only three major hyperscalers \u2014 Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services \u2014 have the infrastructure to handle vast amounts of data needed by businesses at scale in the UK, said University of Surrey cybersecurity professor Alan Woodward.<\/p>\n<p>These centres remain \u201csusceptible to localised infrastructure failures\u201d, which can have significant knock-on effects when so many businesses depend on just a handful of providers, he added.<\/p>\n<p>He said the problem is \u201cintensifying with the AI boom\u201d as demand for hyperscalers rises, meaning \u201cwe are becoming more reliant on these few massive entities\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!-- \u603b\u5bb9\u5668\uff1a\u6700\u5927\u5bbd908px Grid\u7d27\u51d1\u5e03\u5c40 -->\r\n<div style=\"display: grid;
