The AI-powered platform is built to scale the company\u2019s talent placement service, and dismantle the systemic barriers in tech recruitment that lead to fewer women getting hired into tech roles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This follows the recent release of a new gender equity report by Toast Institute, the company\u2019s non-profit arm, on sponsorship, career advancement, and why women leave tech.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Toast isn\u2019t reinventing the Summit this year. Only 35% of women reported having a senior leader actively advocating for their career, compared with 51% of men.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The difference is especially pronounced in the middle of a career. At the senior level, 33% of women reported having an active sponsor, compared with 51% of men. At manager or lead level, the figures were 37% and 60%, respectively.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report also found that women with an active sponsor were more than twice as likely to say they were confident they could advance in their organization.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report\u2019s conclusion isn\u2019t complicated. Getting women actual jobs in the tech sector is just the first step.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How they progress through the ranks heavily relies on who advocates for them, what work they get trusted with, and whether they can see a realistic path forward.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The findings give this year\u2019s Summit a specific problem to put on the table.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-a-new-way-for-employers-to-find-women-in-tech\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A new way for employers to find women in tech<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the same week as the Summit, Toast released its\u00a0Talent Marketplace out of beta. It\u2019s a self-serve sourcing platform for employers looking for women in tech.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Companies describe the person they are looking for in plain English, receive ranked matches, and initially review candidates through anonymized profiles. I mean, the title of the chat is \u201cThe Courage to be Called Selfish,\u201d so you just know it\u2019s going to be good.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Women are taught to be selfless, so we <em>have<\/em> to stop apologizing for our ambition.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(It\u2019s 2026, ffs)<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hicke says Plank is someone she has wanted to bring to Summit for years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cShe\u2019s been my hero for a really long time,\u201d she says. \u201cI think she brings a really unique perspective, being a Canadian living in the U.S. right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Summit has also expanded some of its programming, with both their \u2018How Women Are Navigating AI\u2019 and \u2018Women Doing Cool $h!t\u2019 panels having concurrent discussions, giving attendees more choice and more stories from women on the frontlines.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Between hosting the Summit, studying where careers plateau, and building a tool meant to get more women in front of employers, Toast is playing an important role.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When I asked her what\u2019s the one thing about Canada\u2019s innovation story that drives her nuts, Hicke didn\u2019t even have to take a beat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s still a tech bro culture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re in charge of hiring tech roles and have recently said \u201cwe can\u2019t find women,\u201d that\u2019s a you problem.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(Google is free, my guy.
