That\u2019s why we\u2019re not mentioning it yet,\u201d Free told board members, adding that the main goal is to have it ready for the tournament in June.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The 2026 US Open golf tournament will be held at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Free said the extra platform is needed because the Montauk Branch east of Patchogue is mostly single track, about 72 miles out to Montauk.
