For companies using additive manufacturing for production rather than occasional prototypes, those steps add labor between a finished print and a part that can actually ship.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That gap remains a stubborn problem as the industry scales.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More than two-thirds of respondents to the 2026 Additive Post-Processing Survey said their current post-processing methods are either a challenge today or likely to become one in the near future. The two most frequently cited problems were the time required to finish parts and the consistency of the results, according to the annual study from PostProcess Technologies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company had already flagged the issue when it relaunched the survey on September 10, 2025. In that announcement, PostProcess Technologies Chief Experience Officer Dean VonBank described post-processing as the most underreported yet critical step in additive manufacturing workflows. The survey tracks support removal, resin and powder removal, surface finishing, labor, throughput, safety, and other work performed after printing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The volume of production moving through additive systems is growing at the same time. The Wohlers Report 2026 valued global additive manufacturing revenue at $24.2 billion in 2025, up 10.9% from the prior year. Printing services accounted for 48% of the market, the largest individual segment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">HeyGears is trying to eliminate part of that finishing workload with its new G1X desktop system.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In full-color 3D mode, the G1X prints colored and transparent elements within the same continuous build. HeyGears says its UV 3D resin produces finished full-color models that do not require painting afterward. The machine has a maximum 3D build volume of 420 \u00d7 330 \u00d7 130 mm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A studio producing dozens of custom portrait figurines illustrates the point. Printing the geometry is only part of the job if every figure still needs primer, masking, multiple coats of paint, and touch-up work before it can ship. Cutting or pulling those supports away also risks damaging the finished print.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The G1X uses water-soluble supports in its full-color 3D mode. HeyGears lists complex hollow models and internal structures among the intended applications, where the support material dissolves rather than requiring manual removal from hard-to-access cavities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The same machine also handles work outside conventional 3D printing. Its UV system prints flat graphics and raised textures directly onto more than 400 listed base materials, including acrylic, wood, leather, glass, ceramics, and metal. Apparel orders run through the textile setup without switching platforms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To simplify day-to-day operation across these workflows, the G1X includes automated maintenance features such as white-ink agitation, printhead heating, and automatic cleaning. The system supports multiple levels of printhead care, from routine nozzle checks and automatic upkeep during longer jobs to a deeper cleaning process that uses cleaning fluid when switching modes or restarting after shutdown.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">HeyGears recommends leaving the printer powered on during regular use so automatic maintenance continues in the background. If the machine will sit unused for more than a month, the company advises shutting it down and running a Deep Cleaning cycle on restart.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That maintenance design matters because labor reduction is becoming part of the investment case for post-processing technology itself. The 2026 PostProcess survey found that redirecting employees toward higher-value work had risen to the second most frequently cited reason for investing in post-processing equipment, behind only improving final part quality.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The G1 Series has raised roughly $15.4 million from more than 3,500 Kickstarter backers as of September 1. Kicktraq listed funding at approximately $15.39 million at the time of writing. The G1X Full-3D Pack is priced at $3,599 during the campaign, which closes September 11.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Production units have not yet undergone broad independent testing, so HeyGears\u2019 claims around print quality, maintenance requirements, and reductions in post-processing labor remain unverified under sustained production conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That leaves an important part of the economics unanswered: how much labor actually disappears when painting and difficult support removal are taken out of the workflow, and how much of that saved time is offset by the upkeep a multi-mode desktop system requires.
