Research published in 2024 examining data-driven campaigning found that campaigns increasingly use data analytics to identify audiences, tailor communications and test campaign interventions. A separate global study analyzed 2.5 million political advertisements from 54,000 advertisers across 95 countries, finding that targeted advertising is now used extensively across different political systems and ideological groups. For campaigns, however, the value of data may not simply be in having more information. Its real value may lie in being able to turn voter feedback into actionable insight, identifying which audiences are responding, which messages are gaining traction, and where resources may be better deployed, while there is still time to adjust the campaign.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The scale of modern campaigning seems to add another dimension to that environment. The Federal Election Commission reported that congressional candidates collected approximately $3.8 billion and disbursed $3.7 billion during the 2023\u20132024 election cycle. Those figures appear to illustrate the substantial resources moving through American elections, while local and down-ballot campaigns can operate with considerably smaller teams with the desire to still run professional-grade campaigns. That gap may increase interest in technology that brings voter data, outreach, analytics, planning, and compliance-related functions into more accessible systems.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Campaign data may also be taking on a more immediate role. Historical voter information can often provide useful context, while email responses, text engagement, polling, calling, canvassing, and digital activity can provide newer signals during a race. Yet the expansion of AI into political organizing could bring public scrutiny. Pew Research Center reported that 57% of U.S. adults in 2024 were extremely or very concerned that AI could be used to create and distribute fake or misleading information about candidates and campaigns. Those concerns make responsible data use, human approval, and transparency important considerations as campaign technology develops.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Within this environment, more targeted organizing may offer campaigns another way to allocate limited resources. Teams can potentially examine engagement at the precinct level, identify communities responding to outreach, and adjust communications as new information arrives. The potential value lies in connecting information in real time, particularly for campaigns whose staff consists largely of volunteers. This kind of responsiveness may become increasingly relevant as voters move between different digital channels and campaign messages compete for attention.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Daniel Kuether, co-founder and CEO of Electd, has built his work around that operational gap. \u201cAs a former candidate and county party chair with a background in product design, I\u2019ve been repeatedly exposed to passionate local candidates trying to run campaigns with no roadmap, no team, and no time,\u201d he shares. That experience informs Electd\u2019s effort to bring voter data, outreach, fundraising, analytics, campaign planning, and AI-supported strategy into a unified system for candidates and political organizations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The significance of that model extends beyond combining software functions. Smaller campaigns may have volunteers who understand their communities deeply while having limited experience with voter databases, bulk communications, political compliance, or the technical connections between multiple systems. Kuether estimates that some campaigns readily rely on multiple separate tools, creating opportunities for information to become fragmented. A centralized system may give smaller teams a more manageable way to coordinate those functions while retaining human oversight over consequential decisions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Younger candidates may be particularly relevant to this development. Nearly 50 million Americans aged 18\u201329 will be eligible to vote in the 2026 midterms, while CIRCLE research found that 56% of young people surveyed say they are extremely likely to vote, with many calling for meaningful changes to the political system. Further CIRCLE research found that more than one in five young people would consider running for office. If that interest is to translate into action, candidates will need more than enthusiasm; they will need accessible tools that allow them to understand their electorate, respond to feedback, and compete without relying on traditional political networks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Kuether, Electd\u2019s AI tools extend that concept from communication into decision support. Its AI campaign assistant (Ask Electd) allows campaigns to query their own data, receive campaign briefings, and connect selected insights with actions. \u201cWe envision candidates gaining easier access to information about who is voting, why people are engaging, when their responses change, and how different groups interact with a campaign,\u201d Kuether states. \u201cPrecinct-level analysis can help campaigns concentrate limited spending on areas showing stronger opportunities, with some campaigns reporting substantial budget reductions after adopting a more targeted model.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Florida gubernatorial primary provided an example of the distinction between historical assumptions and current campaign feedback, according to Kuether. He notes that historical information indicated that white women represented an important constituency for the candidate, while campaign interactions showed stronger engagement among people of color, immigrants, and non-English-speaking voters. \u201cThe campaign subsequently redirected outreach toward those groups,\u201d Kuether remarks. For him, the lesson was the value of treating voter interaction as information that can inform decisions during a campaign, with technology helping teams recognize changes while a race is still underway.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That philosophy connects with his broader view of political participation. Kuether describes Electd as a nonpartisan effort to make campaign technology more accessible to people who may have political ambition without extensive connections or large fundraising networks. \u201cIf you care about the future of democracy, it starts here,\u201d he remarks. In this framing, the potential benefit of AI lies in lowering some of the practical and technical barriers associated with becoming a candidate, including for younger people, people of color, and individuals outside established partisan politics.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">AI\u2019s political role may continue to raise questions around trust, misinformation, privacy, and accountability. At the same time, responsible applications may make campaign intelligence and organizing infrastructure more affordable for candidates operating at different levels.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The larger development may extend beyond faster campaign operations. Political technology could become part of the civic infrastructure through which first-time and younger candidates enter public life.
