As organizations look beyond pilots and proofs of concept, many IT leaders are grappling with what this shift means for operations, governance and business outcomes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To review this spread of AI services, <em>Digital Journal<\/em> spoke with Siddharth Dhar, President &amp; Global Head, Digital IT Operations &amp; AI, Hexaware Technologies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Digital Journal: \u00a0Gartner says 40% of enterprise applications will have AI agents embedded by the end of this year, up from less than 5% in 2025. For IT leaders who are just now wrapping their heads around this, what does that actually mean for how they run their teams day to day?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Siddharth Dhar:<\/strong> IT leaders will need to redesign how workflows across people, systems and agents. As agents become embedded into enterprise applications, teams will spend less time navigating workflows manually and more time supervising outcomes, resolving exceptions and improving processes. This changes the role of IT from maintaining systems to orchestrating intelligent operations at scale across the business. It also raises the importance of governance, interoperability and real-time visibility into how decisions are being made.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DJ: \u00a0Many companies have moved past the AI pilot stage but are seeing a gap between deploying AI and seeing measurable business impact. What does it take to turn AI agents into something that delivers real, day-to-day value at scale? What does success look like?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Dhar:<\/strong> The difference between deployment and impact is operational discipline. AI agents need to be connected to enterprise systems, governed by clear policies and measured against business outcomes like cycle time, accuracy, productivity and customer satisfaction. Success is not about how many agents you deploy; it is about whether you can operationalize one use case, prove value, and then repeat that model across the enterprise without adding complexity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DJ: How much of adopting AI agents is a technology challenge versus an organizational one \u2013 things like trust, change management and internal alignment?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Dhar:<\/strong> The technology is only one part of the challenge. In many enterprises, the bigger issue is fragmented systems, poor data quality and a lack of alignment around how AI should be used. Trust has to be built through transparency, guardrails and measurable outcomes, not through big promises. If teams do not understand where agents fit into their work, adoption will stall no matter how good the technology is.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DJ: For companies that already have AI in production, what\u2019s harder than expected when trying to scale it across the business?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Dhar:<\/strong> What tends to be harder than expected is moving from a controlled use case to a connected enterprise environment. Pilots often work because the scope is narrow and the data is managed. Scaling is different; agents need to interact with legacy systems, business rules, security models and multiple teams. That is when organizations realize that AI readiness is really a question of process, architecture, governance and change management.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DJ: There\u2019s a fine line between automation and losing control. How should enterprises be thinking about oversight as AI systems become more autonomous?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Dhar:<\/strong> Oversight has to evolve alongside autonomy. Enterprises should approach AI agents the same way they approach any critical business system, with clear accountability, auditability and escalation paths built in from the beginning. Not every decision should be fully automated, especially in areas involving compliance, customer trust or operational risk. The most effective organizations will be the ones that build in auditability, policy, and escalation from the start. Establishing strong governance frameworks early enables agents to operate with speed while still remaining aligned to business objectives and policies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DJ: \u00a0Is there anything else you would like to add?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Dhar:<\/strong> AI agents represent a broader shift in how enterprises think about execution and decision-making. We are moving toward environments where systems can not only provide insights, but take action across workflows in real time. That creates opportunities for organizations to become more adaptive, responsive and resilient, particularly in areas like IT operations, customer experience and service delivery.
