Otherwise, we have work to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He called the spike in inflation \u2014 currently at 3.7 percent and nearly double the Fed\u2019s two-percent target \u2014 \u201cconcerning\u201d, and said he would be \u201chard-pressed\u201d to describe current financial conditions as \u201crestrictive\u201d, a potential hint that rate hikes could be on the horizon.<\/p>\n<p>However, he stopped short of saying he would support a hike, adding: \u201cI stand here today committed to a discipline, not to a decision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All three main indexes on Wall Street fell Friday. Yields on short-term US Treasury bonds \u2014 which reflect monetary policy expectations \u2014 jumped, and the dollar rallied against its peers. Gold, which benefits from lower interest rates, fell.<\/p>\n<p>And Asia followed suit, with tech firms \u2014 which rely on borrowing to fuel their huge AI investments \u2014 leading the way down.<\/p>\n<p>Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Taipei and Jakarta were all down, though Singapore and Wellington edged up.<\/p>\n<p>Focus will now turn to a string of crucial data releases over the next two weeks before the Fed makes its decision, with jobs up this week and the consumer price index (CPI) next week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShould we get an inline payrolls print that does not give the Fed too much to work with, next week\u2019s core CPI report will become the major decider for the market\u2019s Fed belief system,\u201d wrote Chris Weston at Pepperstone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe volatility priced around that outcome across rates, forex and equities could therefore be significant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Fed\u2019s battle against inflation has been hobbled by the Iran war, which has pushed oil prices higher.<\/p>\n<p>And after a run lower for most of last week, they spiked again Monday, a day after the United States said it had attacked Iranian rocket launchers on a small island in the Strait of Hormuz, its first strikes on the country in a month.<\/p>\n<p>The attack prompted Tehran to retaliate by hitting US military targets in Jordan. Both main crude contracts rose more than two percent Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The exchange came shortly after the US-Iran war hit the six-month mark, and at a time when hostilities had been subsiding.<\/p>\n<p>The news revived concerns about the conflict, with attempts and peace talks appearing to be going nowhere and the strait \u2014 through which a fifth of global crude and gas passes \u2014 largely closed.<\/p>\n<p>US officials this month vowed the \u201ceconomic asphyxiation\u201d of Iran to make it open the waterway.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHormuz is once again threatening to put a floor under oil just as Warsh is putting a ceiling on how much inflation patience markets should assume from the Fed,\u201d said Quintex Intel\u2019s Stephen Innes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor oil traders, (the) move is another reminder of how quickly the geopolitical premium can return.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPhysical flows through Hormuz have improved materially from their worst levels, which is precisely why crude had started giving back some of the fear premium, but the latest exchange shows how fragile that progress remains and how quickly the shipping story can be pushed back onto the trading desk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Key figures at around 0230 GMT \u2013<\/p>\n<p>Tokyo \u2013 Nikkei 225: DOWN 1.6 percent at 65,361.60 (break)<\/p>\n<p>Hong Kong \u2013 Hang Seng Index: DOWN 0.8 percent at 25,383.90<\/p>\n<p>Shanghai \u2013 Composite: DOWN 0.4 percent at 3,937.76<\/p>\n<p>West Texas Intermediate: UP 2.3 percent at $85.33 per barrel<\/p>\n<p>Brent North Sea Crude: UP 2.6 percent at $90.39 per barrel<\/p>\n<p>Dollar\/yen: DOWN at 159.83 yen from 160.07 yen on Friday<\/p>\n<p>Euro\/dollar: UP at $1.1591 from $1.1586<\/p>\n<p>Pound\/dollar: UP at $1.3544 from $1.3538<\/p>\n<p>Euro\/pound: UP at 85.59 pence from 85.58 pence<\/p>\n<p>New York \u2013 Dow: FLAT at 53,559.99 (close)<\/p>\n<p>London \u2013 FTSE 100: UP 0.3 percent at 10,824.26 (close)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!-- \u603b\u5bb9\u5668\uff1a\u6700\u5927\u5bbd908px Grid\u7d27\u51d1\u5e03\u5c40 -->\r\n<div style=\"display: grid;
