Otherwise, we have work to do,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the speech, he flagged that he did not see recent data as suggesting that underlying inflation trends had \u201cmeaningfully improved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Fed has held rates steady through 2026, but a growing faction of policymakers has called for interest rate hikes to combat inflation fueled by Trump\u2019s war on Iran and his tariff policies.<\/p>\n<p>At its last meeting in July, the Fed once again held rates, but a quarter of voting members on the rate-setting committee dissented, calling for an immediate hike.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 \u2018Impressed\u2019 \u2013<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3861371\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3861371\" style=\"width: 768px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3861371\" src=\"https:\/\/www.digitaljournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/92b4f73b987ee0535bd7e5d30b3a7ef6c1a86334.jpg\" alt=\"Warsh, appointed by US President Donald Trump and in office since May, was kicking off a key central banking meeting in Jackson Hole, Wyoming -- a storied venue for monetary policy watchers.\" width=\"768\" height=\"512\"\/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3861371\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Warsh, appointed by US President Donald Trump and in office since May, was kicking off a key central banking meeting in Jackson Hole, Wyoming \u2014 a storied venue for monetary policy watchers. \u2013 Copyright AFP\/File Brendan SMIALOWSKI<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Warsh had positives to note elsewhere in his economic outlook.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am impressed by the overall performance of the economy, which appears to have strengthened,\u201d he said, noting metrics in business capital expenditures, corporate earnings and consumer spending.<\/p>\n<p>The Fed has a dual mandate to keep long-term inflation to its two-percent target while also delivering maximum employment.<\/p>\n<p>Unemployment has remained relatively steady in the United States over the last year, despite seesawing job growth numbers \u2014 mainly due to demographic shifts driven by an aging population and lower net immigration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn the employment side of the Fed\u2019s dual mandate, our country is doing well,\u201d said Warsh, noting he believed the current unemployment rate of 4.1 percent was \u201cbroadly consistent with full employment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 AI a \u2018hinge point\u2019 \u2013<\/p>\n<p>Warsh also spoke of the effects of artificial intelligence technology on the US economy, calling the current moment \u201ca hinge point in history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The central bank has been investigating the effect of AI on productivity and jobs.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, the Fed chair\u2019s speech made no mention of the central bank\u2019s independence, which has been under unprecedented attack by Trump since the latter took office last year.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Trump renewed his attempts to fire Fed Governor Lisa Cook, and he frequently insulted and criticized Warsh\u2019s predecessor Jerome Powell as he demanded lower interest rates \u2014 despite high inflation.<\/p>\n<p>Another point of potential tension between Warsh and the Trump administration may be on bond markets, analysts say.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said his department would double its bond buybacks, indicating that he felt bond yields were too high.<\/p>\n<p>Warsh, however, has called higher bond yields a useful market indicator. On Friday, he doubled down on that approach.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Fed needs clear market signals, as unfiltered as possible,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Staying (mostly) mum \u2013<\/p>\n<p>Since taking office, Warsh has been adamant about saying less, not more.\u00a0Friday\u2019s remarks offered a first look into his views on the economy.<\/p>\n<p>He stood firm, however, on offering less guidance and transparency about his thinking than his predecessors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTransparency in communications about future policy decisions is not a virtue unto itself,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Analysts largely welcomed Warsh\u2019s speech as offering much-needed insight into his views.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe context within which he was delivering his speech was one in which Fed credibility was being questioned under Warsh\u2019s leadership,\u201d said Gregory Daco, chief economist at EY-Parthenon.<\/p>\n<p>Following Warsh\u2019s speech, long-term US Treasury yields dipped briefly, while the dollar strengthened.<\/p>\n<p>Diane Swonk of KPMG warned, however, that his doubling down on less transparent decision making could lead to more noise down the line.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA quieter Fed could reduce overreliance on policy signals,\u201d she said. \u201cWithout a sufficiently clear framework, markets will fill the silence.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!-- \u603b\u5bb9\u5668\uff1a\u6700\u5927\u5bbd908px Grid\u7d27\u51d1\u5e03\u5c40 -->\r\n<div style=\"display: grid;
